27Live Review – Great Food and Much More

I have passed 27Live frequently and wondered about what was inside.  Recently, I had the chance to find out and was surprised to learn about its many and varied offerings.

My husband (Leon) and I (Barbara) enjoyed a lovely brunch (27Live brunch)one Sunday and learned about the “Treble-Maker Grill” which is new to 27Live and we took a look at the many venues that include a main stage a smaller performance space, an upstairs whiskey bar and various sized rooms available for rental.  Each day of the week has special offerings such as Trivia Tuesdays, Wine Wednesday s, Thursday Jazz, Friday Karaoke, Live music on Fridays and Saturdays and Sunday Bloody Sundays.  To find out about the significance of the name and more check the 27Live website.

Brunch was a very pleasant experience. Our server Kelly was pleasant and helpful, offering guidance on our selections and keeping our food and drink needs met.  In the last couple months, there have been many positive changes and one of those is the food.  We were surprised at the variety.  Everything we ordered was flavorful, and not “heavy”.

Leon began our brunch with a “Bloody Mary” and commented that, “What I like is the gherkin and pitted olive, the great tomato flavor and perfect spiciness”.  We later learned that the mix is created in house and the spices are specifically chosen and treated.  This was not your usual drink and he really enjoyed it.

Barbara, looking for a gluten-free, vegetarian option chose the “Margherita Omlet” with basil, tomatoes, & fresh mozzarella, serve with home fries.  The omlet was light and pleasant with herb flavors that were very pleasant.  The potatoes were wonderful, “the way potatoes should by made”, and often are not.

Leon selected the “Egg White”, frittata with Spinach, Mushroom, & Goat Cheese, Served with a fruit salad and a side order of bacon.  This dish proved to be creative and unique.  He loved the way the egg white was piled high with spinach, and mushrooms and there were sliced potatoes.  The topping held the flavors in.  The dish was delightful.  The fruit salad was outstanding, beautiful and absolutely delicious.

Our meals were further enhanced when manager, Joe Moore, brought us a dish of carrot curls, which are unique to this restaurant.  They were delicious on their own but enhanced the flavor and texture of the other food we were eating.  I highly recommend an order of these for the table for those eating here.  A tour of the various venues this facility offers followed and I will share that below.  But what would breakfast be without a cup of coffee?  The coffee here is brewed specifically for 27Live and it was rich, full bodied and mellow.

The great menus available for lunch, dinner, carryout and catering as well as for private parties are created by Chef Charles Andersson who come to 27Live after growing up in Chicagoland, becoming a chef in Oregon and working at outstanding Chicago restaurants such as Green Dolphin among others. Check the 27Live food.

We were impressed with some of the features that 27Live has which are hidden treasures as you can see.

Come and explore whether for a meal, a performance, a private party or… and find yourself surprised that the puzzling sign on Church Street offers so much.  In fact, it is a bit like a local “City Winery”, only more intimate and flexible (minus the winery).
