My husband and I had the opportunity of visiting 210 Restaurant & Live Music Lounge in Highwood at a press event.  This former bowling alley has been reinvented as a charming supper club with terrific music offerings. The eclectic ambiance was charming and the food and music were very enjoyable. At our table, four of us enjoyed a full course meal from appetizers to dessert.  I have some dietary restrictions and the chef was very accommodating.  I was especially appreciative of the vegan and vegetarian items on the menu.

Come on in

As we approached the entrance, one of the owners, Steve Goldstein escorted us in.  He told us that he had owned the property, which was a bowling alley, for ten years and this new venture opened about a year ago, a soft opening.  Now 210 Restaurant & Live Music Lounge is really ready to take its place the perfect North Shore venue that boasts a charming ambiance, with excellent food and music.

210 Restaurant & Live Music Lounge is steadily earning a reputation as the sought-after live music venue on Chicago's North Shore. It is an expansive and sophisticated restaurant that features excellent regional American cuisine from accomplished Chef Jeff Tomchek, while offering music lovers a comfortable, beautifully designed setting in which to hear the region's top artists. The entertainment represents a wide variety of musical styles. The performance space is impressive, and performers like the spacious, fully equipped stage, complete with a state of the art sound system, recording system, plus an in-house Kawai  Concert grand piano and Hammond organ.

The menu is the result of the more than 30 years Tomchek spent building his culinary career acros s the United States and in Europe, Central America, and South America. "Our food is absolutely not a culinary sidekick to our music-the food is front and center," said Tomchek. "From the beginning, our goal was to offer high-quality food that was reason enough to visit 210. Our food reaches across many regional and global cuisines, but we've also made our barbecue and Southern-style dishes prominent on the menu. We serve good-time food that is the perfect accompaniment to good-time music."

Each table is comfortable and has a special charm

The music is surprisingly good. There is such a wide range of musical styles that North Shore and Chicagoland audiences are sure to find what they like. Wednesdays showcase singer-songwriters and smaller jazz acts. Enjoy every Thursday evening featuring jazz artists with music beginning at 7 p.m. On Fridays and Saturdays, the music kicks up a notch with funk, rock or dance music that begins around 9 p.m., so guests can enjoy a delicious conversation-friendly dinner before getting their groove on.

Lovely ambiance

"When it comes to our music, we are sticklers for quality," said music program director Judy Shatkin, an accomplished jazz pianist who heads the Judy Knight Quartet featuring Brian Wilkie on pedal steel guitar. "We only present polished entertainers who offer great music for listening, dining and dancing. We will continue to expand our music program to showcase great talent, including more acclaimed artists from around the country. 210 Restaurant & Live Music Club represents a great evening out, with excellent food, great musical entertainment and dancing."

Steve Goldstein, Judy Shatkin and Jeff Tomchek are all partners.  Steve’s wife, Peggy, with 25 years of experience in antiques, (Peggy's antique shop website) has turned the old bowling alley into a space that is relaxed and fascinating.  Judy Shakin  shared with us her experiences in many fields that lead her to be the excellent musician she is and Chef Jeff Tomchek accommodated my dietary restrictions while maintaining the wonderful flavors in the usual menu items. What a perfect place to enjoy holiday celebrations, office parties, family gatherings and chatting with friends.
