How did it happen? When Brooks Ellis was 20 years old and Amit Gilad was 19, they had an idea. They looked around decided that their stomping grounds of Topanga, California needed something cool and different. The two good friends wanted to create a fun event where music lovers like themselves could spread positive energy and enjoy great music in a family friendly setting. They looked around and said, “Why Not us? Why not here?” It was decided Topanga Canyon’s Topanga Community Center was the perfect place to pull something like this off. The Reggae on the Mountain Festival was conceived and born on that very day!

Both Amit and Brooks grew up in Topanga Canyon. Brooks, a former football hero, on his way to a promising college career and scholarship prior to injuring his knee laughs, “I remember when this spot we’re sitting a right now was a vacant dirt lot, with abandoned cars. Topanga Canyon is still pretty rustic, but now, it’s called charming. It has certainly grown up over the years.”  Amit, a talented musician and drummer who performs often in various groups around Los Angeles adds, “Brooks and I really have great love and respect for Topanga Canyon. We grew up here and love the community.”  These two former kids, who over the years have transformed themselves into savvy businessmen, are giving back. In addition to being an amazing Festival presenting terrific music and activitiesReggae on the Mountain serves as a Fundraiser for the Topanga Community Club.

Fittingly, their company, Label27 Event Production was named after Topanga Canyon’s official Highway 27, designation. Founded in 2009, Label27 Event Production operates several festivals throughout the year with the extremely popular Reggae on the Mountain being their flagship show.  This year’s 8th edition of Reggae on the Mountain promises to be the most impressive yet. The line-up features Sly & Robbie with Mykal Rose; Katchafire; Yellowman; Raging Fya; Eljai; Alika with Quinto Sol; The Expanders; Landon McNamara; Blaze Mob; Ital Vibes; Prime Livity; SYNRGY; Cornerstone; Ras Rebel; Pachamama, Irie Nature; Yesai; and Likkle Reggae.

Amit says, “We cannot thank the LA reggae community enough for supporting Reggae on the Mountain over these past years. It's been amazing to see our once small gathering evolve into the event it is now. We hope to keep giving our fans unforgettable musical experiences by working with more legendary reggae artists as the years go on.”  Brooks and Amit add, “We’re even launching a Poster Contest around our theme of #SummerofoneloveGo to our Facebook page for instructions on how to submit your poster.” They add, “We are happy to be able to present this event for the 8th year in a row.  Everybody join us for the Reggae on the Mountain #summerofonelove July 22 & 23 in Topnaga Canyon.
