I had the pleasure of attending I.C.O.N Products' “Cocktails For A Cause” fundrasier on September 17th, 2014 in benefit of cancer research. Located at 20010 Ventura Blvd. in Woodland Hills, CA, Co-Founder/Creative Director's new line, "CURE by Chiara" debuted. Each guest to sign up for Stop Cancer’s 5k/10k Run/Walk on September 28th at Woodley Park, left I.C.O.N’s Style Lab with a gorgeous heart box containing this beauty trio in tow as a thank you for coming out to support their yearlong #CureForACause campaign. With October being Breast Cancer Awareness month, I was especially happy to join in the festivities and try out “CURE by Chiara’s” scentsational shampoo, serum and conditioner collection firsthand (box set retails for $95).

Partygoers included loyal patrons, beauty insiders, distributors, I.C.O.N-friendly sister salons, stylists, family, friends, Hellraiser’s Ashley Laurence and Rocker Lita Ford. Lita warmly sifted through the crowd, sharing smiles and the heartfelt story surrounding the loss of ther mother due to breast cancer. Written prior to her mother’s passing, Lita’s song "Lisa" is a tribute to their most special relationship. The video can be seen on YouTube

Guests noshed on fingerfoods and decadent desserts, washed down by Risque Sparking Wine and Global Vodka. While cocktails were flowing, I.C.O.N’s Director of Operations Michelle Lepire told me, “ For the fourth year in a row, CURE Replenishing Spray has been I.C.O.N Products’ best-selling, stand alone item.” CURE had clearly become far more than just a winning product. #CureForACause is the driving force behind “Cure by Chiara” and why I.C.O.N donates 20% of proceeds to Stop Cancer direct. Stemming from this disease having hit home, not only has Chiara lost her mother due to breast cancer and witnessed her sister’s parallel journey firsthand, she too has became a target for the disease.

After receiving a negative BRCA gene test, Chiara was professionally informed she was not a carrier like her mother or sister. A few months later, she found a lump that resulted in a malignant biopsy and was scheduled for a double mastectomy right away. Two rounds of aggressive chemotherapy and a year of fighting for her life later, today Chiara is a breast cancer survivor striving to raise awareness through those who come in and out of her chair and the backing of a most successful, professional haircare brand.

With global cancer rates on the rise, Chiara and I.C.O.N are working congruently in partnership with Stop Cancer for the discovery of a cure. I.C.O.N chose Stop Cancer to attach as CURE’s beneficiary due to their relationship with major cancer research centers such as UCLA. Matching $1 in-kind donations for every dollar raised helping to pay for utilities, researchers, materials needed, and building expenses – everything needed for research, #CureForACause has raised over 150k in research grants deposited to Stop Cancer direct.

Chiara’s purpose in life seems to be that of paying it forward through beauty’s messaging. Beautiful for her strength as a survivor and as a brand, I will never forget her blushing reponse when I asked what she was wearing on the red carpet. Almost as if she were embarrassed to answer and laughing with light behind her eyes, she responded with a whisper, “Louis Vitton and Prada”. How a woman this lovely and at the top of her trade could be so human AND humble, was refreshing. It’s true, that curing cancer never goes out of style with I.C.O.N. Products.
