2010 Louis M. Martini Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvginon Lot 1
Description: Full-bodied and complex, our Louis M. Martini Lot 1 Cabernet Sauvignon captures the essence of Napa Valley’s distinctive terroir. The opulent ruby color alludes to the deep, intense dark fruit flavors of blackberry and currant. Rich aromas and flavors of black cherry and cassis are framed by toasted sweet oak notes and hints of mocha. Velvety, plush tannins give this wine a full, luxurious mouthfeel and a long, elegant finish of fruit and spice. Winemaking Notes: The grapes for our Louis M. Martini Lot 1 Cabernet Sauvignon were hand-harvested in half-ton picking bins and hand-sorted before destemming and partial crushing. The must was then gravity-fed into open-top tanks at Cellar No. 254. Fifteen percent of the blend was fermented with a submerged cap for a more gentle extraction, which created more elegant tannins. After fermentation, the wine was racked by gravity into French oak barrels for malolactic fermentation. After gently handling the wine as individual barrel lots through the winter and spring, we assembled the majority of the blend in June 2011, allowing the flavors to integrate before sending the wine back to barrel for another year of aging. Lot 1 was aged in French oak barrels, 95 percent of which were new, for a total of 21 months. The oak notes were seamlessly integrated into the final blend, adding hints of chocolate and brown spice without overpowering the intense fruit flavors.
