2008 Louis M. Martini Monte Rosso Cabernet Sauvignon
Description: Our Louis M. Martini Monte Rosso Cabernet Sauvignon was handcrafted from 100 percent Cabernet Sauvignon grapes from the Monte Rosso Vineyard in the Sonoma Valley. This is rich with aromas of cherry, clove, spice and earth. Robust and full-bodied, Monte Rosso Cabernet has juicy red fruit flavors and hints of leather, sweet herbs and spice. Oak aging imparts well-integrated nuances of cedar, caramel and brown spice. Winemaking Notes: Master Winemaker Michael Martini uses carefully selected grapes for this 2008 Cabernet Sauvignon from blocks E18, E50 and E54 on the renowned Monte Rosso Vineyard. At the state-of-the-art Cellar No. 254 micro-winery within the Louis M. Martini Winery, the grapes were hand sorted and destemmed, but not crushed, leaving 90 percent whole berries in the fermentor. For maximum extraction of color and flavor, the must was cold soaked for two days and remained in contact with the skins for 15 to 30 days during fermentation. This Cabernet was fermented in small lot 3.5 to 7 ton open-top fermentors and underwent malolactic fermentation to create a plush, velvety mouthfeel before racking and aging for 26 months in 90 percent French oak barrels and 10 percent American oak barrels, 70 percent of which were new.
