Marmalade Restaurant Puerto Rico Review - More Than Enough Reason to Visit Puerto Rico

Having a great experience at a fine dining restaurant is not just about how well the food is prepared, it is also about the location, the décor, the ambiance of the restaurant, the service you receive, and above all, the the quality of the food.

Marmalade, located in old San Juan, Puerto Rico is a world class restaurant, that makes me want to go back to San Juan just to eat there again. As a foodie who has been to many fine dining restaurants all over the world, I must say, this restaurant blew me away.

Interior design

Upon entering, you will notice that the interior is bigger than it appears from the outside. The restaurant is filled with lavish, yet contemporary décor and mellow music that goes perfectly with the ambiance. Colors and lighting that make the environment warm, cozy and relaxing. Tables with couches filled with pillows that make you want to pass out after eating their delicious food and vibe that makes you feel less formal and more “at home”.

 

You are welcomed by a friendly, professional and knowledgeable staff that explain everything on their menu. Marmalade offers tasting menus that can be chosen with or without wine pairings. Their tastings come in four, five or six courses.

My number one concern when I arrived in Puerto Rico was my inability to maintain my healthy eating habits while away from Los Angeles. However, when the talented Marmalade chef Peter Schintler came to greet our table, like he did with all other tables, I officially fell in love with the restaurant. He explained to me that the restaurant is proud to serve food that is environmentally conscious, unmodified, farm to table ingredients with organic proteins. He stressed the importance of creating food that is natural, gluten free and healthy for everyone. This was music to my ear!

Each plate that came out was a 5 star experience!

We ordered the below dishes:

R3 – Market selection of organic Radish carpaccio, Roquefort cheese, and Red apples all dressed with apple cider vinegar, raw honey and petite peppery sprouts.

Pacific Yellowtail Poke – Sashimi grade raw west coast fish served island style with ginger, lemongrass and organic soy mixed with compressed watermelon.

Popcorn Shrimp – Cilantro and garlic grilled shrimp lacquered with anejo tequila rest atop pablano guacamole and heirloom ancho-chili spiced popcorn.

Heirloom Golden Beets – Raw hearts of palm, haas avocado, organic radish carpaccio, goat cheese, grapefruit and almond vinaigrette.

Homemade Gnocchi – Mild horseradish, cabernet braised beef ribs, wilted peppery greens and crispy beetroot.

Sea Bass – Wild pacific Hawaiian sea bass served on a bed of green bamboo rice tropical pineapple – ginger relish and fresh coconut water-lime emulsion.

Swordfish – Modern “Sicilian style” with blood orange, green olive and white anchovy velvety lemon chick pea puree, local basil and pine nuts.

Niman Ranch Natural Hormone Free Lamb Tagine – Moroccan French style braised lamb with ras el hanout sprouted quinoa couscous with marcona almond pomegranate, spiced green olives and minted yogurt.

Every bite was mouth watering. The food on the menu completely came to life! This is an absolute must go to restaurant in Puerto Rico. A restaurant that exceeds your expectation.
