Staying in Shape During Winter

While it may not be as cold, this holiday season still carries a particular danger. Tis the season to be jolly of course, but tis also the season when most of get stuffed up with Christmas cookies and moms cooking, where going to the gym is the last thing on your mind when you have a warm blanket, hot chocolate and a good movie, even if you are in LA.

It’s no secret that most of us put on a pound or few during the holidays, and then just before the summer you start realizing that you don’t have that bikini body anymore. Well, this is actually not the only reason why you should take better care of yourself during winter - making such big oscillations in your diet and workout plan puts your body though stress and can have very bad effects on your health. This does not mean you have to pump iron every day, but there are simple things you can do to stay healthy.

Watch Your Diet

Yes, this is a tough one during holiday season. This does not mean you can give yourself a little break and eat a cookie or two more than you usually would- what it means is that you should not forget about the healthy stuff like fruits and veggies either.  What is good is that each season has an assortment of fruits and veggies that or the best at that particular season and you should use that. Citrus fruits are perfect in the winter time, and they are packed with C vitamins that will give your immune system a boost. You can also avoid drinking a lot of coffee by drinking grapefruit juice in the morning- it will give your body the same boost that it needs but much healthier.

Another popular trend is making smoothies and juices. These are perfect on the go, if you are running late for work or you just finished with the gym, and you can add different pre-workout supplements to them to make them even more nutritious. Use the time you have at home to spend more time with your family, cook together and explore different healthy recipes that will help your metabolism stay strong during these cold months.

Put in a Bit of Exercise

As we said, you don’t need to pump iron every day, but more often than not, people will rather opt for curling in a blanket and staying home than going to the gym or even doing some simple exercises at home. If you don’t want to go out, you can find an infinite amount of tutorials on the internet for various exercises and for every body type and every strength level.

When you are in a hurry, as most of us are most of the time, getting in a workout before breakfast will increase your muscle mass and that will help your post workout calorie burn a lot. Try doing some short interval training- these won’t take long, and are really good for fat burning and transforming your figure. And besides, starting to work on your bikini body this early will be much more satisfying than stressing out one month before the summer holiday.

Don’t forget about your friends. Cold times are often a time when we tend to seclude ourselves from others with the excuse of a lot of work, cold weather, etc. Maintaining an active social life has been proven to have positive effects on the immune system because it keeps us active and reduces our stress level, and let’s face it- it’s much more fun then spending your night wrapped up in social media.
