There are few cities in America that are as fitness conscious as Los Angeles, which made nearby Marina del Rey the perfect picuresque setting for the second annual MINDBODY FitPro Conference that was held September 27th through the 29th.
The MINDBODY FitPro Conference brought together some of the latest innovations in workouts and fitness and much more, bringing the best of the fitness world together all under one roof, or sometimes on top of the roof. Attendees were able to participate in some of the most innovative and high-impact health, fitness and business experiences, combining certifications, business education and networking opportunities. MINDBODY FitPro featured Continuing Education Credits (CECs) and educational series from some of the top brands in fitness, including Spinning, Peak Pilates, Bodyblade, resist-a-ball, CrossCore, KettleBell Concepts and Ugi Fit. Guests were also treated to “Biggest Loser” host Allison Sweeney, who moderated a panel discussion including past Biggest Loser contestants.
The MINDBODY FitPro Conference got things going a little early with their pre-conference Education Sessions. MINDBODY University covered three days and was designed specifically to help current MINDBODY clients get the most out of their software system while providing a forum for exploring the software in depth and trading business advice with peers. KettleBell Concepts was teaching the Level 1 Introduction to Kettlebell Lifting that was presented by Dr. Emily Splichal and took place on Wednesday and Thursday. This 16-hour course is the first step of many within the KBC curriculum and is geared specifically toward fitness professionals looking to implement kettlebells into a one-on-one or small group, semi-private environment. Attendees learned the science, history, foundational movements and lifts, safety and efficiency considerations and teaching skills while also learning kettlebell training from a neurophysiological, biomechanical, kinesiological, and motor learning/control perspective. Spinning® Instructor Orientation was presented by Marci Williams and Natashia Iacovelli and was held on Thursday. This class helped attendees in becoming one of the world’s most sought-after fitness instructors—a certified Spinning® Instructor. Topics included during the nine hour class were; bike setup, the five core movements, three hand positions, choosing music, creating a 40-minute Spinning journey, safety considerations, teaching techniques, Spinning philosophy, heart rate training and a three-phase instructor training program. After completing this orientation, you would be qualified to teach the Spinning program at any official Spinning center throughout the world.
One of the highlights of the weekend was “CHAMPION-THE RIDE” presented by Josh Taylor on Thursday. Josh conceived, produced and taught this high intensity workout that will test your endurance, speed and power but also was a visually stimulating ride as it took place on the roof-top helipad of the Marina del Rey Marriott at dusk. Josh really took spinning to a new level with this class.
In terms of the variety of workouts, attendees were introduced to a number of great new workouts. One of the most intense workouts of the weekend was the R3 Training Concepts workout. This multilayered workout takes you through Bodyblade, CrossCore, KettleBell Concepts and Rowbics. This low-impact, total body workout can burn from 600 to 800 calories per hour and this is one workout your body will remember.
