Choosing an energy drink or a sports hydration drink these days can be a little like throwing a dart blindfolded, you just never know what you are going to get. Well it is time to take the blindfold off and grab a Golazo and try a sports drink that will change the way you view sports drinks forever.
A soccer mindset, a little inspiration and the desire to get it right led to the creation of Golazo. Golazo co-founders Richard Tait and Alex Rosenast were looking to change the world of sports drinks that is known for poor taste and even worse ingredients.
“I noticed kids on the soccer field mixing Red Bull and Gatorade, trying to get a combination of energy and hydration and I thought there had to be something better than that,” Richard said. “I wanted a healthy alternative and wanted to create a phenomenal product, so we went through multiple focus groups and had soccer players give us feedback on the taste until we got it right.”
What they came up with was two all-natural product lines and chose the Spanish term “Golazo” as the name, which means “super goal.” First there was Golazo All Natural Sports Energy, launched in March 2011, and that was followed up by Golazo All Natural Sports Hydration, which came out in February of this year.
Unlike a beverage market that is saturated with drinks that seemingly are the same, there is nothing typical about Golazo. The energy drink comes in Jamaica, Mandarina, Mango Limon and Sugar-Free. I will say this is the best taste Sugar-Free product on the market. I normally would turn away from these beverages due to the poor taste as well as the aftertaste, but this is not the case with Golazo. You would have a hard time even knowing that it is Sugar-Free. The hydration drinks come in the following flavors; Jamaica, Limonada, Mandarina and Mango Limon, all are refreshing and perfect for any type of workout. An all-natural, non-gmo drink that contains coconut water, organic agave syrup as a sweetener and less sodium than your typical drink, they all taste as good as they sound.
While Golazo does not have the advertising and marketing budget of Red Bull or Gatorade, they have a passion from their love of soccer and an insight unlike these behemoth companies that are more focused on the dollar sign than what the customer truly is looking for.
“We noticed three big trends coming together; increasing enthusiasm in soccer, increasing influence of the Latino community and the move towards natural products,” Richard said. “The flavor profiles came from insight from within the Latino community, we started with Latin fused flavors that have a little flare with their passion.”
Golazo does not just talk about soccer, they live it. From giving out Golazo at Seattle Sounder soccer games, to supporting a variety of soccer groups, such as the Seattle Street Soccer Team and finally making it part of the workplace. They took a converted BMW dealership and created a 75-foot by 25-foot indoor soccer field fashioned out of painted carpet. This makes for some competitive lunchtime games and also home to some amazing soccer parties hosted by Golazo. Some nights you will find three-on-three matches with a DJ in the background.
Golazo is currently being sold in the Seattle area but is looking to branch out and should be hitting the Southern California market sometime this summer. In the meantime you can try Amazon.com but check often because Golazo is such a hit that they are often sold out. The first day they went national last July, they sold out within 24 hours. Also make sure to check out Golazo on Facebook, Twitter as well as a number of great videos they have posted on YouTube.
Next time you are looking for a drink take the blinders off and reach for a Golazo. You are in for a surprise from the first drink and there is no question that it won’t be your last and you might just love it so much you might let out a “GOLAAAAAZOOOO!!”
