Born in Miami, Florida and raised in Cedar Rapids, Iowa is where this very talented young singer/song-writer began her career. Shanica Knowles began singing at the age of 4, played the guitar by 9 and started composing her own music by 12; it was only a matter of time before she started playing in front of an audience.
Shanica shortly after began entering local competitions and won every single one she was entered in, if that doesn’t have star written all over it I don’t know what does! One of Shanica’s most memorable moments was at the mere age of 12 when she was given a standing ovation for her performance singing a country song at the heart and soul of Harlem, the Apollo Theater.
Realizing the potential she had at a young age and the capabilities of growing into a professional musician, Shanica’s parents put everything on the line to make their only child’s dreams a reality and moved to the city under limitless skies, Los Angeles.
Aside from singing her heart out and filling notebooks with lyrics, Shanica showed the other side of her many talents by taking acting roles like the bully Amber Addison in the Disney hit series “Hannah Montana” and also the movie “Jump In” alongside co-star Corbin Bleu. She has also taken part in the MTV’s “Awkward”, NBC’s “Harry’s Law” and recently on WE TV’s “Melissa and Joan”. Shanica is currently targeting her next big movie and series projects.
Although it’s been a challenge for Knowles to make a breakthrough and cross over from the screen to the radio, she is one tough individual and won’t settle until she has reached her goals. This 21-year-old’smotivation and strong-willed attitude is a trait to admire in her ongoing struggles with her career.
Even though Shanica may have countless talents there is nothing more important to her than music. Her style, as unique and soulful as it is, may be compared to a young Alanis Morrisette with strong heartfelt lyrics as well as to the great ballads of Adele. With songs like Will You Remember, beginning with a strong piano melody and a voice echoing with soulful lyricism building up to a strong rhythm when the drums start pounding resulting in a truly beautiful song, and Paranoid which also has a soothing piano entrance and is more or so about the feelings attached with love, which has a feel to it of something more or so like Jordin Sparks and everyone knows that’s a compliment!
Currently working with producer Brain Kennedy, who has worked with stars like Rhianna, Chris Brown and Kelly Clarkson, Shanica only works to produce Grammy quality music, which is nothing short of amazing. Girls are Forever and #1 Fan were placed on the last episode of Charlie’s Angels as well as the song That Child for the film Life, Love, Soul which is set to be released in April.
You can also see her in a miniature version for she is the new face of the Kenya Doll as they re-launch November 1st. Shanica will also be going on tour promoting her new mini-self from November to December hitting 22 cities.
