How to Factory Data Reset Your Samsung Galaxy S8

If your Samsung S8 has a blank or frozen screen resetting your data to factory setting might help. If your apps are freezing or crushing, the same might be of help. Other areas that a factory reset could help with your Samsung S8 include the following.

  • If you have keypad/touch screen problems
  • If you can't hear
  • If your device is making noises
  • If can't make or receive calls
  • If your device won't sync.

Method 1

However, before carrying out the factory reset, there are a number of things that you should do to avoid being locked out of your device for 24 hours. Here are the most basic options that you must always keep in mind before resetting your Smartphone.

If your Samsung S8 has an Android Device Protection enabled it is important that you know the GoogleTM email address and password.

However, if the password for the Google account that was used to enable the Device Protection on the S8 cannot be remembered do this:

You can attempt to log in with any other Google account that had previously been used on the device – then reset the password for new one.

Remember however that once the reset has been done, your smart device won't accept the new password for 24 hours. What this means is that this new password can only be used after 24 hours.

More important to note is that after 24 hours your Samsung Galaxy S8 device must be restarted. This is to verify that the waiting period has been met.

One thing that you should remember is that performing a factory reset with this process should be done only when it is absolutely necessary. The reason we say this is because this process often clears all data from your phone including the following.

  • Contacts
  • GoogleTM account
  • System and app data
  • App settings
  • Downloaded apps
  • Media - Music, pictures and videos.

Method 2

This is an alternative method that can be used if the device can be powered on and is responsive.

Ensure that your Samsung S8 is powered off. Then Press and hold the Volume Up + Bixby + Power buttons at the same time – Only release all buttons when the Phone vibrates. From the Android Recovery screen you will be able to see options. Select Wipe data/factory reset. You can utilize the volume key/ buttons to scroll through the available options and once on the option you need use the power button to select.

Once you have reached your preferred “select data/ factory rest” you should then “Select Yes” and allow several seconds for the selected factory data reset to complete. Follow this by selecting Reboot system now.

You should also allow several minutes for the entire reboot process to complete. Once done, you can refer to your initial factory user manual to rest your phone.

Make sure you get the right help if you don’t understand how to reset your Samsung Galaxy S8. This is important as it prevents more damages to the smart device that you are using and allows your phone to last longer.
