Rock icon Graham Nash held a reception Wednesday, April 17, 2013 in Hollywood at the Morrison Hotel Gallery at the famous Sunset Marquis Hotel, previewing a selective collection of photographs called Visual Harmony to media and friends.
Nash, known for his light tenor voice and his songwriting contributions with the British pop group The Hollies, and with the folk-rock super group Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young had been interested in photography since the early age of 11. His passion for art and photography led him to start collecting photographs into the 70is. Hiring Graham Howe in 1978 through 1984 as his photography curator, who put together a touring exhibition of selections from the Graham Nash Collection the photos toured to more than a dozen museums worldwide. Then Nash decided to sell his 2,000 print collection through Sotheby's auction house in 1990 where it set an auction record for the highest grossing sale of a single private collection of photography. But this was only one of many accomplishments in Nash’s career.
Nash was inducted to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame twice once as a member of Crosby, Stills & Nash in 1997 and then a second time as a member of The Hollies in 2010 and was one of the pioneers of digital fine art printing. Experimenting with ink sets to try to overcome the fast fading short longevity of IRIS prints and adapting the IRIS printer to fine art printing.
Nash’s entrepreneurial ways led him to open his own printing business called Nash Editions Ltd in July 1991, calling their fine art prints "digigraph".
Nash’s photographs at the Morrison Gallery consist of many intimate portraits of rock and acting celebrities Dennis Hopper, George Harrison, Bob Dylon, Joni Mitchell, Johnny Cash, Neil Young nisand many more.
The grainy quality and the gorgeous light used, tell of a glamorous era and style, we can only read or dream of. Especially since most prints are in black and white.
His portraits all tell a story and have the ability to move its audience with emotion.
The crowd was happily chatting and mingling to cocktails getting a backstage seat to Nash’s and all of his rock star buddies lives minus the smoke or the drugs. So which print made my night you may ask???
It was the print where Judy Collins is intimately kissing Steven….
