The Karen Lynne Gallery Grand Opening

The Karen Lynne Gallery had already opened its doors with a month-long series of soft openings which started on June 23, 2005, and was a prelude to the star-studded event that took place July 14. The series consisted of six events that included educational tours for children in art camps, industry night for agents, managers, and publicists, a local night for Beverly Hills residents and city officials, and a cigar and cognac night.

Karen Lynne Asher is confident and optimistic that this newly developed genre will be welcomed, not just in Beverly Hills, nor solely by African Americans, but by the world. Sophisticated Elegant Blacks in Art (SEBA) significance in Art History is uncanny. By contracting twelve international artists, many of the worlds finest painters, the SEBA show will not just catch your eye and heart, but allow new emotions to arise that have yet to be tapped. Each stroke of the painters brush brings to life the beauty of a sophisticated, elegant, modern, upper class African American. This vibrant, provocative, and incredibly innovative show offers a unique opportunity to view African Americans in contemporary settings on canvas.

SEBA is organized around African American figural subjects from myriad artistic styles. It is not 'black' art in the traditional sense of the term since the painters selected represent many cultural and racial backgrounds, including that of Black America. The artists were selected for their individual talents within specific styles of art: from photo-realism to neo-impressionism to near-abstraction, and the chosen pieces relate to the theme of affluent African American lifestyle. The paintings on display document diversity and act as a metaphor for the divergent experiences and meanings within African Americana. Just as the music and entertainment industry have expanded the ways African American culture can resonate with all people, SEBA seeks to further figural painting's ability to transcend individual backgrounds toward common experience. The exhibition is not about promoting a specific point of view or a singular agenda in the world of fine art. It is about exploring subject matter and style present in American culture.

Karen Lynne Gallery was brought to Los Angeles by Karen Asher to bring her stable of artists to the West Coast and expand her client base while allowing her artists to broaden their exposure. The first exhibition in the Karen Lynne Gallery is the most important in her life. Karen Asher states that her goal 'is to create a center for figurative art that has never been seen before in Los Angeles and to get the Angelinos more emotional.'.

The gracious hostess, curator, and gallery owner made everyone feel at home in her new gallery and the well-attended affair included the likes of Al Santos, Eric Christian Olsen, Maggie Lawson, Lamar Tate, Steven Segal, Jaleel White, Josh Holloway, George Stultz, the Maloof Brothers, Debbie Allen, Won-G, Latin singing sensation Carlos Ponce, and the NFL's John Weyburn. Karen Lynne was, and is, delighted to bring an exhibition of such significance to Beverly Hills and the entire west coast.

This blue carpet, star-studded event was mainly sponsored by the ONE organization and Hpnotiq. Other sponsors included Lil'Chub, dailycandy.com, URB Magazine, Borba Skin Balance, and Vered Salon. As if the opening did not have enough to offer, the gallery also provided the lovely Valet Of The Dolls, DJ Hire, and LoveSac which only made this artsy experience that much more unforgettable! The debut line of fine jewelry from Deanburke was also presented. Debby Dean and Maureen Burke are the design and development team behind this line. The pair traveled around the globe to India to create the sensual, modern collection. Luminous 18kt and 22kt golds compliment the exotic precious and semi precious stones used in the organic shapes of the hand made pieces. This new gallery follows the previous two that Karen Lynne opened in Boca Raton, Fl.
