Shay Todd Fall 2005

I had the pleasure of attending the Mercedes Benz Fashion Shows Fall 2005 Collections, held at Smashbox Studios.  That's right, I was among the beautiful people, and I'm not just talking the models.

It was swank on top of swank, which is to be expected when you combine high fashion with a sponsor like Mercedes-Benz.  I was surrounded by several open bars, ladies in kitten heels, and gents in their finest fedoras.

Shay Todd's fashion show hooked me in the minute I sat down in my seat.  Sade was pumping through the speakers to prep the crowd for what was to come, a sensual sophisticated line of swimwear that looked almost too divine to wear on the beach.  By the time the lights lowered and the models took center stage, I was already a fan even before I saw the swimwear.

Shay Todd, like most high-end swimwear lines (Malia Mills, Jantzen, etc.) is superbly cut to mold to your figure.  The swimwear was accented in a beautiful Eastern theme.  This year's collection is dominated with the hues of lavender, white, and earth tones.  All of the swimwear were accessorized with adorable cover-ups that were one step-up above the leisure suit.

The cover-ups vary.  They are light-as-air pants in a wonderful gossamer fabric, tunics embroidered with sequins and cut with thigh-high slits up the sides, and cute-as-can-be hobo bags to match.  At this point I wanted everything for my very own.

I'll list my favorites, which were pretty much everything.  There was a velour lavender jacket with gorgeous bell sleeves, a terry cloth white hoodie accented with a burgundy ribbon at the waist.  For the daring, or the more body confident, little boy-shorts with a 3-inch length max were displayed.

However some suits tended more toward form than function.  You know what I'm talking about, the kind of suit to lay out and pose in not to do laps in.  If you want something that's strictly functional, I suggest you check out Speedo.  These suits for the ladies-who-lounge crowd were accented at their ties with precious turquoise, and some had daringly low decolletage.  I'm talking a halter one-piece cut down to the navel and another one trimmed all in feathers down its deep v-front.

Yes, the Shay Todd's fall collection was in a word scrumptious. Now all I have to do is get the bank account and the waist line to wear one.
