LASplash.com: Los Angeles Events New Balance Lifestyle Spring 2009 Collection Review – Perfect Mix of Trendy, Sporty and Fun By Natanya Steelman (West Hollywood, CA) November 19, 2008 – Shopping for shoes is always quite exciting, but Red Light PR made shopping for New Balance shoes an entire evening event. The New Balance Lifestyle Spring 2009 Collection for men and women was featured at DDCLab in West Hollywood, (known for its high-end, technologically advanced apparel), where attendees indulged in luscious desserts, such as bite-sized chocolate chip or chocolate toffee oat cookies and white chocolate mondel bread by Lulu’s Sweets, sipped on five different flavors of calorie-free, multi-functional water by Skinny Water and freshened their breath with Orbit’s and Extra’s newest fruity flavors of gum.
Not only did I have an amazing time ogling New Balance’s cute new women’s shoes, but I also had so much fun meeting everyone at the event. All the Red Light PR gals were the most welcoming and sociable hosts… not to mention they looked so chic that you’d think they were models straight out of Vogue!
Kelly LaRussa, the New Balance Account Executive, showed me the new Lifestyle Spring 2009 Collection, raving about its unique designs, universal appeal and versatility. The collection’s three unisex offerings includes: “Vintage Running” – This line reveals the dichotomy between fashion’s past and future with its use of high-tech fibers or stainless steel infused nylon material in some styles, while others stick to basic two-toned suede or mesh backgrounds with patent leather accents. Though the futuristic styles offer incredible uniqueness and have a little more pizzazz, my favorite style is the “420 Suede” in green… casual, classy and always comfortable.
“European Imports” – Though this line varies slightly for men and women, all styles combine bright colors (think back to the Highlighter and Bold Crayola Marker packs from your childhood) with unique materials, such as high-tech nylon, metallic fibers and two-toned suede / leather combinations. My favorite style is the English-born, high-end suede and nylon “670,” which in the navy / red pattern, has the perfect hint of preppy-ness without seeming stuck-up.
“Japanese Imports” – If you are into “making a statement,” then this line is for you. With its bright, solid-colored materials and thick soles, this collection draws all eyes directly to the wearer’s feet and demands second glances. I’m not usually a huge fan of such attention, but I do really like the “996 Candy” in purple / pink, which was actually inspired by candy… I’d say probably a grape ring pop.
The Lifestyle Spring 2009 Collection splits with the following two sporty styles: “American Luxury” – This men’s style combines the sleek, non-chunky silhouette of a marathon running shoe with classic all-American chic suede accents, yielding a timeless casual shoe that is perfect for any age.
“Lifestyle” – This women’s style is my favorite in the entire Lifestyle Spring 2009 Collection! It comes in either “442 Candy,” which has minute, neon-colored accents on a pure white background or “460,” which is similar to “ 442 Candy” in that there are vibrant accents on a solid background, but this style incorporates more details in varying materials and two-toned soles. The “460” is a perfect balance of trendy, sporty and fun, and with its incredible comfort, it is a shoe I would recommend to anyone!
