"makeup is a magical fairy dust - it can instantly transform"

Entrance to the Pavilion
For the second time, The Makeup Show NYC had its event at Manhattan's Metropolitan Pavilion on 18th Street. As a photographer, I work with a number of makeup artists. One such artist, that I have been working with for sometime, invited me to accompany her to this event that just, last year, started holding these types of conventions.

So, grabbing my camera, I went to see what an interesting story this could make. I sure wasn't disappointed! Like the quote above from a young makeup artist I met on my adventure says, this event is truly magical! I'm glad that I was taken to this place where you can watch, and even participate, in the wondrous transformations that are possible in the world of makeup.

There were so many informative and just plain fun activities going on at The Makeup Show NYC. There were seminars, I believe 30 in all, held over the event's two days. There were hands-on workshops where you could learn, and try out, the latest in make-up tech. And, of course, you could buy anything from the smallest makeup brush, to an airbrush machine to paint someone's body, or even your latest disguise from the guys in the cinema makeup booth.

Beauty is what most people think of when they think makeup, and all the big name cosmetic companies were there to show their lines. Firms like Maybelline, Victoria's Secret, and Giorgio Armani were just a few of those in attendance at The Makeup Show.
There were also stars of the makeup world like four-time Emmy Award-winning Eve Pearl. She was giving a seminar on the same makeup techniques she has used on TV shows like The View, on faces like Kelly Ripa of Live with Regis and Kelly, and on other celebrities including Al Pacino, Michael J. Fox, and Jon Stewart of the Daily Show.

Remember Demi's paint job?
I was truly amazed by The Makeup Show NYC. It was a place where you could discover why someone would want to become a makeup artist in the first place. These are the talented people who help make supermodels look 'SUPER', who make actors ready for their close-up, and who can fill a whole universe with interesting aliens like in Star Trek and Star Wars.
But makeup artists enhance the beauty in all of us, not just the famous. At the end of the event, as I saw the artists carrying their bags with all the goodies they got from The Makeup Show, I thought, "I wouldn't be surprised if there was some fairy dust in a few of those bags!"
