Alexander Terekhov returned to the Bryant Park Tents for his third consecutive season earlier this month. The 28 year-old Russian designer behind Terexov, who is celebrated for his elegance and craftsmanship, continued to illustrate why he is one of the world’s most promising talents. Unveiling 33 ensembles, Mr. Terekhov underscored an exciting current fashion movement in women’s sportswear, a casual elegance interspersed with playful details for a look that allows his customer to express her individuality.

  
 
Mr. Terekhov studied at the Institute of Fashion and Design in Moscow, moving to Paris in 1999 to train with the legendary fashion house Yves Saint Laurent. He parlayed his couture training to upstart his own label, Terexov. In 1999, the designer developed his "Twilight" collection, which earned second place in the inaugural nationwide competition, First All-Russia, among young designers and was devoted to the 200th anniversary of Alexander Pushkin's birth. In November, 2003 Alexander Terekhov debuted his collection at the Spring 2004 Prêt-a-Porter Week in Moscow.

Alexander Terekhov resides in Moscow and is a sought after to design dresses for international socialites, high profile Russian celebrities, and now Americans who covet his line. In 2006, Mr. Terekhov was honored as one of the country’s top ten designers in “International Textile” for his signature line. The brilliant designs and collections of Terexov have been featured in Russian editions of top tier fashion magazines such as Vogue, Collezioni, Harper’s Bazaar, and Glamour.

Terexov made its American debut in 2006 when Alexander Terekhov was selected as one of ten talented emerging designers to present his Spring 2007 collection as part of “UPS Delivering Fashion’s Future” at New York Fashion Week. His designs have been recognized internationally, with presentations both in Cannes and at Moscow Fashion Week. His multiple career highlights have included gallery exhibitions, published illustrations, as well as costume design, uniform creation, and stylist assignments.

Alexander Terekhov’s predominantly neutral palette featured varying shades in grey from dove to charcoal, with ivory, pearl, blush, khaki, and black providing graphic contrast. Small hints of soft color punctuated the scheme with yellow, sky-blue, and rose. Employing cotton, cashmere, and silk; the silhouette was also quite forgiving with great movement and volume. Leggings remained strong this season as did feminine details such as pouf-sleeves, tiered ruffles, sheared bodices, and empire waists. The hair and make-up also captured this carefree elegance with a high chignon and the fresh faced-glow of softly lined eyes and delicately stained lips.

While the collection was heavily focused on daywear; there was also a series of elegant evening gowns featured in the finale. Alexander Terekhov delivered interpretations of the little black dress and classic trench that were anything but basic with unexpected whimsical touches. As the models sauntered onto the runway to a pulsating techno soundtrack I checked off my favorite looks, which included: a pearl cotton blouson t-shirt atop a silk full skirt; the pearl cotton halter paired with a blush grey skirt; a lovely dove grey cotton tiered mini-pouf dress; the ivory cotton cocoon-style coat; a slate cotton zip swing coat; the grey cotton off-the-shoulder dress with a pouf sleeve; and a black cotton halter, with a light grey silk skirt with sash. Every ensemble featured a dress or skirt of some sort; even leggings were layered under longer belted cardigans. The dress was certainly the favored silhouette for Fall 2007 and if Alexander Terekhov has anything to say about it, that trend will carry over to next spring as well!
