LASplash.com: Style and Fashion TMG Style LA: Swim and Resort Fashion Show Review - Mixing Fashion and Charity By Rebecca Burstein Santa Monica, CA, July 28, 2008 – Kim, Khloe and Kourtney Kardashian took a break from filming their reality TV show “Keeping Up with the Kardashians” to host a charity fashion show last week.
The trio, along with mom Kris Jenner, attended TMG’s Style LA: Swim and Resort fashion show at the Viceroy Hotel in Santa Monica. The annual event, now in its 6th year, benefits Stop the Violence, Face the Music, an organization dedicated to helping inner city kids. While the organization has been linked to this event for the past 15 years, this year the fashion show also benefited The Facial Paralysis Foundation, which aims to benefit patients affected by the devastating effects of the illness.
A white runway set up over the pool staged models wearing bathing suits and resort attire from Christian Lacroix, Valery, Gottex, Ina Soltani, Monique Leshman, Haverhill, Plush Premium Denim and Miki Nembhard. The Kardashian favourite, obvious through their shrieks, was Plush Premium Denim’s blue jeans showcased on shirtless male models. Kim Kardashian also made it clear to the crowd what outfit she had her eye on during her opening speech, as she blatantly said to a particular designer that she really liked a dress she saw back stage. After the audience stopped laughing, she continued by saying oh-so-sweetly: “Now you have to give it to me!” Khloe Kardashian didn’t hold back either, and chimed into the microphone to make that two.
The event’s sponsors included: CUUR, KMS California, World Gold Council, Adorage Skincare, Fiji Water and Pinky Vodka. CUUR, started by the “father of obesity” Dr. K, teamed up with celebrity trainer Valerie Waters (who has trained Jessica Biel and Jennifer Garner) to produce dietary supplements to help people lose weight. CUUR President Gwen Kent boasts that CUUR was one of the first clinically tested dietary supplements. She proudly called the night “a fashion event with a cause.”
Host Kim Kardashian also said that the event was special to her because there is nothing better than mixing fashion and charity.
The event attracted about 450 guests and many celebrities, including Dave Navarro, Andy Baldwin of The Bachelor, Kris Jenner and Jason Davis as well as Disney talent Jordan Francis, Meaghan Jette Martin, (Camp Rock), together with designers Petro Zillia’s Nony Tochterman and Nick Verreos tin.
The chilly summer night set the mood and caused palm trees to sway in the breeze as if to the music. All eyes were on the runway as models fiercely showed off 8 designer lines for ’08 and ’09, beginning with lots of black. For the most part, models walking in black patent leather heels adorned black or white bathing suits with black mesh used often.
There was then a transition into models that were more covered up and sporting gold heels and earrings. Popular bathing suit colours were gold, orange and maroon, and the material was often lame and satin. The color soon really came out as models wore purple, maroon or navy head wraps and walked in patterned bikinis. They showed off bathing suits filled with bright oranges, pale greens, medium browns, greys and light pinks.
Male models hit the runway for the first and only time for Plush Premium Denim. Males wearing ribbed tank tops or nothing at all on top, strutted in dark jeans with running shoes. For females, Plush Premium Denim had denim shorts and dresses.
After that, it was back to bathing suits and resort cover ups. Models wearing flat Egyptian style sandals walked down the runway in pretty cover ups with heavy beading at the wrists and around necklines. Some long sleeve, the v-neck cover ups were sweet, light and airy and had strings at the hips so they could be pulled looser or tighter around that area. Turquoise and white were often matched together, as were white, pink and brown.
The following set of bathing suits had a pretty floral design stand out. White and black bathing suits became more feminine with jewels, sequins and bright colors like green, purple and navy. Ruffles also made a bold statement on this runway. Using hot pinks, green, and yellows, the models wore dresses that fell over one shoulder and with ruffles at the top. A blue, green and purple dress was covered in what looked like feathers, and one dress was really reminiscient of Beauty and the Beast’s Belle, with creases going down to the floor and a huge yellow train.
