Reem Acra Spring 2006 Collection: A Love Affair with America's Glamourous Past

Reem Acra's clothing is made for entrance makers. Whether it's Hollywood's red carpet or your best friend's dinner party you cannot help but be noticed in her clothing. Both sexy and modern, Acra does a fantastic job of translating today's most glamorous trends to wearable and innovative pieces.

Ever since her first eveningwear collection in 2000, starlets and modern women alike, have been drawn to her designs. I predict that this year will be no different with a wildly eye-catching, luxurious and exotic collection. Reem Acra credits America's glamorous past as her inspiration citing the fresh image of Babe Paley, the casual chic of Millicent Rogers, the indulgent spirit of Doris Duke and the international travels of American heiress, Barbara Hutton.

While her designs are inspired by her these glamorous women of yesteryear, in no way are they dated. She takes modern twists and turns along the way to create an entirely fresh look. Her flowing white halter gown embellished with turquoise cabochons has a seventies feel but a modern mentality. While drawing from the same vein she gives us a taffeta white halter top matched with a knee length skirt with a gold embroidered waist. This look has a similar feel to the classic Sharon Stone in Basic Instinct dress but embellished with both the bohemian and metallic trend.

Some of my favorites were her chiffon blousant gowns, infused with ethereal colors like sage, shale, fawn and stone, as well as her series of spaghetti strapped, gold and bronze embroidered dresses which are begging to attend a big event.

Looking back into the past is a common theme among designers; it's always what's old is new, is new again. Reem Acra manages to employ classic formulas while never being formulaic. She injects timeless glamour into today's trends but never goes too far, making them wearable and modern, never silly and overdone. Clothes are meant to be worn and loved, not displayed like art on stick thin models. Reem Acra's Spring 2006 collection is meant to be taken off the runway and into the most exciting times in your life don't forget to strut!
