Colour was the key factor in Nicole Miller's Fall 2006 collection. The designer may have travelled back in time to the Byzantine era to draw inspiration for her prints but it was clear that Mother Nature's own wardrobe inspired her choice of colours. Shades of olive, wine, teal, brown and green adorned the make-shift runway in NYC's decadent Yacht Club.
Although a certain amount of courage may be needed to wear some of the more extreme pieces in the collection, Nicole was sure to include toned down pieces for the more self conscious while still maintaining the Byzantine feel.
Trousers followed the ever growing trend of being tight and skinny legged and were accentuated by wide leather belts. Coats were heavy and long and looked as if they might actually be of some use against the cold weather. Nicole also had her own version of this season's must-have item; the sexy 'secretary suit'.
Leather was a popular addition to the collection appearing in the form of jackets, skirts and trousers. Nicole also favoured a metal taffeta fabric which apparently guards against harmful rays in the environment.
Ever the business woman, Nicole took the opportunity to showcase her range of accessories including; Byzantine influenced necklaces and cuffs, distressed double-buckle leather belts, timeless black sunglasses and leather gloves of varying lengths.
The highlight of the collection was a dramatic floor-length halter neck gown similar to the one worn by Angelina Jolie at the Sho West film festival. Angelina is the latest in a long line of celebrities to favour Nicole Miller including; Joss Stone, Michelle Williams and Cindy Crawford.
Another Nicole Miller fan, Paris Hilton was expected to make an appearance at the show but instead onlookers collectively groaned as Paris impersonator; Natalie Reid pouted and posed her way through the show from the comfort of her front row seat. The Kaiser Chiefs summed up the resulting vibe completely as the show closed with their massive hit 'I predict a riot'.
