LASplash.com: Style and Fashion Nicky Hilton Fall 2008 Collection - Socialite Gets Naughty And Nice By Trisha MacIntosh
Nicky Hilton may not be in the press as much as her wild sister, but this socialite turned designer debuted her fall 2008 collection, titled Nicholai, at LA Fashion Week to a star studded crowd and surprisingly great reviews.
LA Fashion Week’s Fall Collections’ theme seemed to be all about the celeb designer. Nicholai, aka Nicky Hilton, respectfully rose above the rest to prove she might just be around for awhile. "The inspiration for the season was equestrian meets bondage," noted Nicky Hilton. "So a lot of tailored equestrian looks but I wanted to sex it up a bit and not have it look so nice. Add a little naughtiness. There's a lot of patent leather, buckles, latex leggings. It's definitely a chic, sexy vibe."
Nicky Hilton debuted her more expensive Nicholai Collection last season at New York Fashion Week to mixed reviews. She made a smart move when she hauled it to the West Coast, as the LA Fashion Market tends to be a little more celebrity driven. The quality and showmanship of the Nicholai 2008 Fall Collection was on the mark, albeit a couple years behind. Even though fashion does come full circle, the equestrian theme isn’t due for a comeback for another 5 years or so.
Keeping with the moodiness of most Fall Collection, Nicholai had black and whites mixed with a punch of red. Present were also patent leathers, big belts, leggings (a stable in the LA Socialite scene), and short shorts.
The most appealing product that will keep Nicholai on the runways, is Nicky Hilton herself. She doesn’t break any new ground with her collection, but she is very hands on and she would actually wear the clothes herself. Nicky Hilton is very humble and driven, unlike most of the flash in the pan celeb-designers also showing at LA Fashion Week.
