Elegant silk gowns and uniquely cut necklines were presented

A new designer to the couture scene,
Debra Davenport attempts to build her brand while reinventing modern elegance for the chic woman. Her collection combines an array of imported fabrics shaping detailed silhouettes in the form of dresses, skirts, pants, and separates. As one of her very first lines, Debra Davenport prides herself on backing her clothing with the themes of
humanitarianism, hope, and charity. In growing her company, the designer hopes to raise money for her self- created
A- List Project, an aid organization for children and families in Africa. To Davenport, “fashion provides not only a means or self- expression but, much more important, a means for giving hope and ending suffering in some of the most distressed regions of the world.”

Even spandex bathing suits were showcased

Although it’s hard to say anything penitent about Debra Davenport’s new collection, with such good intentions backing her designs, the collection seemed to shock many audience members with signs of incongruence. Her in the moment designs attempted to combine luxury with wearable style, but may have needed a bit more preparation. As the lights dimmed, the show began with a visually seductive strapless
silk charmeuse gown, accented by a French corset.

Eccentric orange silks and flower patterns were accented with crystals

The color palate ranged from deep grays and silky taupes to bright greens and oranges. Complimenting the wide variety of color, a vast array of styles were also displayed such as wide leg pants, flowing silk gowns, and zip- front tunics. Debra Davenport only used the best fabrics that she could possibly find: imported
Italian silk and
French cotton. A few eccentric pattern choices were seen in leaf printed skirts and polka- dotted dresses. Regardless, models walked down the runway sporting everything from dress pants to spandex bathing suits, accented with sheer cut outs around the stomach. Parisian beading and Swarovksi crystals embellished blackless gowns and uniquely cut cocktail dresses.

In essence, Debra davenport put together a great variety of styles for women to wear in the office or out to a fabulous gala, but was simply lacking when it came to consistency. Altogether, the spring 2009 collection shows promising themes for the future, as the designer did not fail to create luxurious styles with intense attention to detail and quality.
