Sci-fi inspired looks

For Collection Bebe Fall 2007, Designer, David Cardona showed a collection that was spirited, military inspired and had a focus on sex appeal when it hit the runway on March 18, 8:00pm at the Main Tent, Smashbox Studios in Culver City, Los Angeles during Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week www.mbfashionweek.com  Last season, Collection Bebe was mainly presented in a black color palette with a blend of neutrals and to my amazement an extremely short display of runway pieces. However, with Fall 2007, Cardona delivered in more ways than one. The music was rocking in fast, thumping beats, A-List Celebrities such as Rebecca Romijn (Face of Bebe) and Eva Longoria (Face of Bebe Sport) came to view his show while the fashion show had variety and spunk to it. A far cry from the monochromatic color palette Cardona presented for Spring 2007.

A trend of note in this collection was Cardona's use of the 'bambino, platinum, short bob wigs' that his models wore. The uniformed look of their hair and make-up was reminiscent of the Hollywood movies, 'Aeon Flux' which starred Charlize Theron and also the movie, 'The Matrix' with Halle Berry; both of these Academy Award Winning Actresses. The similarity between the runway looks and the movie characters was the latex body suits, the bustiers and the skin tight pants that reminded me of the 'sci-fi, out-of-space looks' depicted in those movies.

Another trend that Cardona went for in the collection was the military look. The models were decked out in military-inspired short jackets; the sailor hat was used in solid, shinny black and then there was the abundant use of the army green in his color palette. The army green was used in short, bolero jackets; knee-length trench coats and full-length zipped, cut-out dresses. After viewing the collection, I asked Aj Jackson, Associate Editor of Labelnetworks www.labelnetworks.com what he thought of the collection. Jackson responded, 'in my opinion, the Bebe runway show truly lived up to its expectations and help set the tone for an awesome LA Fashion Week that just keeps getting better and better'.  I also asked Rhett Collier, Fashion Stylist, who was leaving for Paris on assignment shortly thereafter the same question and here is what Collier had to say on the matter. Collier added, 'as to my thoughts on the Bebe Fall 2007 Collection, I feel that the design talents of David Cardona have now placed Bebe in the true realms of fashion'.

Cardona used an abundance of zips. There were zips diagonally in the neckline; along the seam of the skirt and also placed as 'zip cut-outs' in his long, sexy dresses. The collection also featured a number of hoodies. The hoodies were seen in black sci-fi latex jackets; in the green military jackets and also in his sexy evening dresses. The collection ended with a pure white, long floor length dress with Cardona's signature hoodie. The fashion show was a hit and it kept me guessing to the end.
