The epitome of summer is good taste
|
Chick by Nicky Hilton drew a large crowd and for good reason. This insightful designer has an eye for charming American chic, exuding our need for style and comfort.
Hilton’s look was naturally sweet, bearing wholesome designs of the doctors' prescribed fruit and patterns inspired by
The Happiest Place on Earth.
Hilton decided to impart some of
Disney’s magic to deliver a homegrown Spring/Summer line. The swan imagery brought us back to late summer days befriending the swans in front of
It’s a Small World and quaint castles throughout the park. Standing out from neutral colors were glossy apples that glistened on the runway and made for a strong presentation. The apple motif was a delightful sight on cropped tops, spring dresses and oversize
bags.

Filtering through the celebrity-packed room which included
Jaime Pressley,
David Katzenberg and
Nicky’s parents was the kind of buzz that generates when people are really excited about something new. And they were. I was just as pleased as everyone else that fantasy and fruit would be worthy to wear come spring and summer.

Popular styles were prim ensembles that featured casual dresses, fitted tops, sailor pants, slim double breasted coats, off-the-shoulder and mid-sleeve tops and a variety of sandals and heels.
Hilton really worked the red, black and white color scheme to bring out the earthy shades deriving from those gorgeous apples. Candy-red apples and their black counterparts came to life when worn by beautiful girls with reddened lips, cheeks and accessories. Enhanced by the occasional red headband, skinny black belt and white
Peter Pan collar, there was a refined elementary school girl charm to many of her ensembles. Shoes came in various styles, each pair adding a nice touch to her low-key creations.
Hilton's version of casualwear wakened us to the impending warmth of the seasons with cool fabrics, stretchy cotton and cush platforms.

I was pleasantly surprised to see what was in store at a fashion show by a
Hilton. There was nothing pretentious or flashy about the
Chick line. In fact, I found
Hilton’s aesthetic to be quite the opposite, a clothing line for decidedly modest girls. I was enlightened by the fairy tale theme and clear penchant for nature’s goodness. Apples, swans and dark denim made darling impressions on the runway. Modeling a thick-strapped dress strewn with powder blue glass slippers, the designer paid tribute to fairy tale princess
Cinderella. Incorporating the theme into specific pieces without overdoing imagery was both a skillful and creative challenge that
Hilton accomplished. The glass slippers and untrendy swans, and certainly those ruddy apples, pulled off a quirky casualness all its own. I was a fan of all the finely put-together pieces that displayed down-to-earth finesse. These are no fuss, impeccable outfits for an enchanted spring and summer. Cheers to the talented
Hilton who knows her proportions and struck the ideal balance of comfort and polish with her tres "chic" sense of style!
