Anand Jon kicked off New York Fashion Week with his Spring 2007 presentation titled Alchemiste, which featured his ready-to-wear denim line Jeanisis. He presented his new collection to a packed house of over 500 guests at the Metropolitan Pavilion. Michelle Rodriguez and Project Runway's Tim Gunn took to the front row of the show while guest models Liam McMullan (Patrick McMullan's son), Luigi Tadini, and America's Next Top Model Nnenna Agba rocked the runway in support of Mr. Jon's new collection. Other special guests included the designer's sister Sanjana Jon, Cody Franchetti, Anna Blanca, Mike Latham, Michele Gerber Klein, Shashi Abraham, Jill Zarin, Dr. Eric Berger, Allison Weiss-Brady, Nick Raynes, Marissa Bregman, Dustin Higgins, Julie Hayek, Krista Kennedy, Jocelyn Berker, Justin Stiver, Emma Snowdon-Jones and Mark Langrish. Although unable to make it on to the runway for the show, Anand Jon's six month-old panther, Maya, was watching from backstage.

The young designer has already enjoyed enormous success, receiving numerous awards and accolades. At 17, Anand Jon was awarded a scholarship from the Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale, Florida where he graduated as student speaker before transferring to Parsons New School for Design in New York. At Parsons, he began to experiment with the transition from fine art to fashion, showcasing limited edition adornments while pursuing a double major in Fashion Design and Communications.

The Anand Jon Spring 2007 collection was inspired by metamorphosis and the quest of transformation. 'On a literal level, it was the age-old quest of turning base metal into gold. In reality, it was but a metaphor of man's desire to become immortal' godlike' flesh to the spirit. The Blue Lotus, a symbol prevalent in Anand Jon's latest collection, was one of perfection as the lotus blooms even in the muddiest of waters' representing man's potential to divine manifestation in the chaos of the mundane world. This latest line explored transformation through the use of lush colors such as deep blues, bright and sensual pinks, and the extensive use of diaphanous fabrics and beading. The procession of clothing brought the viewer from the basic, with clean open lines to the exotic, with heavy draping and hooded tops and gowns.'

Girls just want to have fun, but the guys get in on the action with these sexy looks.

My favorite pieces included: the pearl micro-modelle knit hooded top with faded boot-cut jeans and amphibian seashell belt; the blue lotus silkscreen tank top paired with a pleated mini skirt; the faded denim trench coat over denim hot pants; the 'red lotus rising' long silk-fitted sheath dress; the blue lotus beaded wrap dress; the midnight blue silk charmeuse brush gold neck gown with spiral tail; and the lotus petal layered with duchess silk corset and sheer crystal beaded halter neck wedding gown. No doubt this collection with all its sparkles and bright washes of color was designed with the young party girl in mind. There is something here at every price point with more affordable separates and accessories starting at $90 to more formal dresses and gowns for evening fetching upwards of $4,200.

Offering so much more than denim, this collection also included stunning charmuese gowns.

Jeanisis is the first full Anand Jon ready-to-wear line of premium Japanese denim intertwined with intricate handwork of Indian design and the cutting edge style of Los Angeles to create a truly international blend. Mr. Jon developed a passion for metals and fabrics growing up in South India, under the tutelage of master artisans and his grandmother, one of the most influential women in his life. During these formative years, his deep involvement in the Yogic disciplines set a metaphysical yet playful flavor to all of his creations. Anand Jon often pays homage to his heritage, while also embracing the cosmopolitan vibe of New York City and the raging progress of modern technology. The designer has been quoted as saying, 'I meditate every night and when I wake up, I check my e-mail.'
