Azu of Ojai serves a variety of succulent tapas, salads an entrees that will satisfy any craving. If you are like us, you'll need some extra time to decide which of their tasty delicacies to devour.
We finally decided to start by splitting their Ensalada de Cabra. It was overflowing with pine nuts, cranberries and goat cheese. The fig vinaigrette dressing had a wonderful flavor. We were just finishing it up when, our tapas arrived.
After much debating, we went with the Bacon Wrapped Dates, Gambas and Grilled Portobello Mushrooms. The Bacon Wrapped Dates came recommended and for a good reason. The bacon was extra crispy and provided an excellent salty contrast to the soft, sweet date, definitely an excellent choice. The Gambas, sauteed prawns in olive oil and garlic, tasted wonderful, especially when paired with the delicious Portobellos.
Between the tapas and the salad, we were certain that we couldn't eat another bite. Then, the Chilean Sea Bass arrived and just the smell of it flared our appetites back up. The sea bass was light, flaky and flavorful. This combined with the white cheddar mashed potatoes makes for a great meal.
If you still have room for dessert, they have a selection of fresh gelato and baked goods. We enjoyed the NY Cheesecake with the Strawberry gelato and the Berry Tartlet with the Pomegranate gelato. All of which, was a great way to wrap up an excellent meal.
