Valentine's Day For Your Taste Buds


To some, Valentine’s Day is the one day out of the year in which a person can truly express their feelings of love towards another. But, it’s not always easy to come up with something to do on the most romantic of holidays.  Luckily, many of Chicago’s restaurants are here to help you decide with special menu offerings that are truly worthy of the love you and your special someone share. So this Valentine’s Day, why not treat your loved one to an especially delicious romantic meal at one of the excellent restaurants listed below.   

Karma

For an appetizer, enjoy Hot and Sour Soup with Shrimp Dumplings, Togarashi Spice Tuna Tartar with mizuna greens and wonton crisps, or Panko Schezwan Oysters served with a wasabi cocktail dip. For the entré diners can choose from three delicious Pan-Asian style dishes. The first is the Grilled Stuffed Golden Trout, stuffed with rock shrimp, cilantro, ginger and lemon grass and served with jasmine rice. Or if fish sin not your fancy, you can choose the Glazed Bone-In Ribeye Steak , which is Chinese mustard rubbed then grilled and accompanied by mashed garlic chive is the second choice. The final entré choice is the Wok Seared Prawns and Sea Scallops with Asian lime chili sauce and forbidden rice.

Finally, two desserts are offered. The first, Chocolate Fondue for Two is served with ginger pound cake, papaya, mango, and fresh berries. For those with an even bigger sweet tooth, the Dessert Sampler for Two is an option, which includes coconut rice pudding, ginger créme brulee and chocolate mouelleux cake.

Karma will also be offering three special cocktails available only with the Valentine’s Day menu: try the Karma Kiss , made of Stoli Vanilla, Chambord, and Godiva White; The French Martini , which is Grey Goose, Chambord, and pineapple juice; and finally, The Karma Cosmo ($8), made of Grey Goose Orange, lime juice, and cranberry juice.

Begin this special Valentine’s Day dinner with a colorful salad that includes purple endive and chicory lettuces, citrus supremes, roasted pine nuts and mango vinaigrette. For the entré, choose from a Duet of Petite Filet Mignon with Boursin cheese butter, sweet potato crush and peppercorn bacon Brussels sprouts, or the Wild Striped Bass with black beluga lentils, passion fruit cream and wilted escarole. For dessert, couples will enjoy the Manage Trois of Chocolate, featuring mousse of white, milk and dark chocolates with mango and cherry drizzle.   

Birch River Grill’s special Valentine’s Day dinner is available from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 14, and costs $39.95 per person. Additionally, the regular menu is available.

Dine is known in Chicago for serving America’s favorite comfort dishes with a contemporary feel, so this Valentine’s Day, enjoy a special a special three-course dinner specially designed with couples in mind.

Dine’s Valentine’s Day special begins with a choice of the  Lobster Bisque, Créme Frache, Prosciutto with prawn, mission fig molasses and yellow tomato, Roasted Heirloom Beet with warm goat cheese, or the pepper cress and pumpkin seed. Entré selections include Wild Alaskan King Salmon with grilled ramp, red Russian fingerling potato and sweet pea emulsion; Peacock Farms Amish Chicken with heirloom vegetables, brown butter and fresh herbs; or the Valrhona Cocoa and New Mexico chili rubbed, grass-fed strip steak with potato gratin and Mississippi Moon Farm Asparagus.   Dessert includes a choice of Chocolate Port Sensation, which is chocolate truffle cheesecake served with Port reduction sauce and passion fruit paté de fruit; or Sabayon and Berries, served with fresh Champagne Sabayon berries.



Dine’s Valentine’s Day meal is $60 per person ($75 including wine) and will be offered Thursday, February 14th, Friday, February 15th and Saturday, February 16th after 5:00 p.m. Dine’s regular menu will also available.

Eat, drink, look and listen on Valentine’s Day at one of Uncommon Ground’s two Chicago locations. This contemporary American restaurant is featuring a three-course prix fixe menu. Start with three choices of appetizers: Sunchoke Soup, served with sorrel and marcona almond pesto and smoked tomato crouton; Seared Sea Scallop, with celery root salad and chive and tarragon aioli; or a Lamb Duo, including a lamb lollipop, slow roast lamb belly, crunchy potatoes and arugula, with herb red wine reduction.

For a main course, guests have three options, beginning with  Seared Jumbo Shrimp and Lobster Saffron Risotto, featuring piquillo peppers, organic baby spinach and sherry lobster bisque; Grilled Ribeye Filet, with black river gorgonzola dauphine potatoes, Nueske black peppercorn cracklings, and truffled wild mushroom ragout; and Tomato Basil Pasta Roulade, Capriole goat cheese, toasted pine nuts, sun dried tomatoes, artichoke cream and Italian gremolata stuffed artichoke.

For dessert, diners can choose from White Chocolate Raspberry Mousse, with hazelnut tuile and lavender honey berry salad; Banana Walnut Trifle with maple bourbon cream and caramelized banana; and the Uncommon S’more,  featuring chocolate bread pudding, graham crackers, bruleed marshmallow and chocolate espresso sauce. Uncommon Ground will also feature three wines, including the 2005 Altamira; Brandal; Albarino Rias Baixas, Spain; 2004 Protos Tempranillo, Ribero Del Deuro, Spain; and N/V Szigetti Sparkling Gruner Veltliner, Kamptal, Austria. Bottles are $25 each.

For Valentine’s Day, couples can enjoy an intimate dinner at Maijean featuring items from their new menu. Begin your meal with an appetizer of Carpaccio of Salmon , served with cucumber, radish salad, and chile broth. A new salad addition is the Warm Pont L’eveque Cheese  with baby frise, toasted walnuts, zante currants, julienne apples, and white balsamic vinaigrette.  

Enjoy a new entré item such as Roasted Salmon, with herb blini, hearts of palm, and hollandaise; Coq au Vin, a casserole of chicken braised in red wine, garnished with mushrooms, pearl onions, lardons and fingerling potatoes in a red wine reduction; and Blanquette de Veau, a traditional veal stew with mushrooms, carrots, and pearl onions served over penne pasta.

For dessert, indulge in Warm Chestnut Cake , with coffee créme anglaise and coffee ice cream or Baby Gala Caramel Apple , with peanut cream and peanut tuile.  Maijean will also feature Valentine’s Day specials designed for two.

Maijean’s special Valentine’s Day dinner will be served from 5 p.m. until 10 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 14. Reservations are recommended and can be made by calling Maijean at (639) 794-8900.

Additionally, couples can create a romantic Valentine’s Day at home with a gourmet specialty gift basket from Maijean. Gift baskets come packed with a selection of Gourmet Cheeses and Patés, Baguette, Chocolate Truffles and a bottle of Moet & Chandon Champagne.

The cost of the basket is $85 with an available upgrade with champagne upon request. Orders must be made 24 hours in advance and can be made by calling Maijean at (630) 794-8900.

Enjoy tasty food and a pleasant atmosphere at Dunlays on Clark this Valentine’s Day. Dunlayswill be offering a special one-night only dinner menu to celebrate Valentine’s Day on February 14. For starters, guests can choose to enjoy any of the appetizers or salads available on the “regular’s menu.”  

The Valentine’s Day menu continues by featuring a choice of one of three entrées: Filet Mignon with a cabernet sauce; Crab Stuffed Salmon Filet with bearnaise sauce; or Bacon Wrapped Pork Tenderloin with orange barbecue sauce.

For dessert, diners can treat themselves to an assortment of Artesian Chocolate-Mocha Truffles and Chocolate Covered Strawberries. The dinner also features champagne bottles and glass pour specials as well as wine flight specials.

For soup, the Valentine’s Day special is Roasted Butternut Squash with wild mushrooms. For the main course, choose from many fabulous selections including Filet Oscar; Pan Seared Lamb Chops with cavatelli pasta and lamb ragu; Parmesan Crusted Mahi Mahi, served with roasted asparagus and lemon beurre blanc; or Roasted Fingerling Potatoes  in white truffle oil.

For dessert, couples can choose from the regular menu items or guests can indulge in a special Vanilla Bean Créme Brulee. Sparkling wine is also offered at $18 per bottle, with choices that include Borgo Magredo Prosecco Veneto; Nicolas Feuillate Brut Champagne; and Marques De Monistrol Cava Rose. All of the American wines are offered at $35 per bottle, with choices including Flower’s Pinot Noir, California (2006); Turley "Old Vines" Zinfandel, California (2005), and Von Strasser Cabernet Sauvignon, California (2005).

For the first course of Deleece’s Valentine’s Day offering, guests can enjoy Red and White Soup, half potato leek and half beet gruyere paired with a 2006 Les Jamelles Chardonnay. Following the soup as the second course is the Frisee Salad, served with fried oysters, dried cherries and warm fennel seed vinaigrette, complimented by Crios Rose, 2007, Argentina. The main course of the meal gives guests a choice of either Beef Tenderloin with porcini mashed potatoes and truffle herb butter sauce, served with a 2004 Hazard Hill Shiraz; or Potato Wrapped Kampachi with saffron braised Napa cabbage and pimento aioli, paired with a 2006 Yalumba Viognier. And to cap off this wonderful meal, guests can share a romantic Chocolate Fondue for Two.

Deleece’s prix fixe menu will be served for dinner on February 14, 15 and 16 during its regular business hours. The prix fixe menu with wine pairings is $130 per couple (or $100 sans wine). Deleece's regular a la carte menu is also offered during the prix fixe special.

Also, Meg Galus, pastry chef at Tru, will be offering an extra special Dessert Collection in the lounge on Valentine's Day. This exceptional selection will be perfect for those who just want to come in for something sweet (and perhaps some bubbly) to celebrate their love for one another.

The Special tasting menu is priced at $40 per person.
