Intimate yet acoustically delightful and jam-packed with aficionados of live music, there isn’t a better place to catch live music up close and personal than at Jazz After Dark in London’s Soho. You can stay late until all hours of the night and enjoy the extensive food menu which includes Spanish tapas or drink groovy cocktails to take you into the night. International and local acts fill a busy schedule which features shows every night of the week.

Both Pete Doherty and Amy Winehouse have been known to pop in for live impromptu gigs here as well as other up and coming luminaries of the music world. I recently stopped in and caught funk infused jazz band The LV Project playing a late night gig. Upon arrival we were greeted by charming owner Sam Shaker whose art is peppered all around the nightclub. With soulful Kate Hayes on vocals, the rhythms of Maciek Pysz on guitar, the incredibly talented Pierre Hellio on drums and Phil Wain on the Bass tying it all in together.

The evening’s best moments were often its most intimate. With their masterful playing, the band gave a passionate performance of “Summertime” by the Zombies and created what seemed like an endless beat swirling above the delirious audience. Some in the audience danced while others bobbed their heads back and forth and side to side. After playing an at least three hour set, the crowd yelled for an encore and luckily the band delivered, closing the evening with a lively cover of Mustang Sally. I had an amazing evening and I can’t wait to re-visit Jazz After Dark again.
