I found it fascinating that Pinot Noir and Chardonnay both originated from Burgundy, while Chardonnay or in French better known as Chablis is more predominantly produced in Burgundy. Burgundy wines are single variety, using two types of grapes born in Burgundy several centuries ago. Pinot Noir for Reds consists of 36% of the makeup of grapes while Chardonnay for Whites is 46% of grapes.

Francois Labet, a renowned wine producer in Burgundy and the spokesperson for the Burgundy Wine Board sat down with me to discuss the region in depth and the wines being produced. His wineries are y Chateau De La Tour and Domaine Pierre Labet and is a family run business that has been in the wine making business for three generations. He has been recognized by the French Government and is an advisor in Foreign Trade to the Prime Minister of France, helping to guide wine exports to other countries. Francois explained some of unique factors of Burgundy wines. Part of what makes Burgundy wines stand out is the continental climate which allows for a soil that has no ocean influence, the intimate relationship between the soil, the influence of the microclimate, the grape variety and the work of man.
