Candela never fails to surprise us and take us away to another time and place. This season’s presentation was no different. Candela, designed by Gabriela Perezutti, created the ultimate cool girl collection while songs from the Django Unchained soundtrack played. There were definitely some nods to the western outlaw movie but ultimately it was simply Candela. The collection married deco glamour with casual mountain comfort for a boho chic aesthetic.
The Box at Lincoln Center was decorated with unfinished paintings on canvas set atop easels while models lounged on velvet tufted chase lounges. Tables piled with soiled paint brushes sat alongside wicker chairs and all on top of lush Persian carpets. The collection’s shoes were playfully set along the unfinished art proclaiming that fashion is indeed artwork. Each model’s place on the set was carefully thought out as the position clearly pointed out the intricate details. One model in particular stood out in a gorgeous silk blush deco evening gown standing in front of a floor length mirror that perfectly displayed the back pleating and beading details. Another model laid casually on the chase lounge extending her leg out to show off her hand embroidered bird tights. The whole set oozed with touches of well thought out whimsy.
Gabriela Perezutti is known for her shabby chic style and pairing the unexpected together in a way that is inspiring and admirable. This season the designer married deco glamour with casual mountain comfort that had us ready for a weekend at Sundance. Using Nordic inspired prints and placing an emphasis on outerwear displayed the designer’s affinity for the cold and rugged terrain. One deer print knit vest with fox fur collar worn over a pleated chiffon and floral lace skirt was certainly an outfit ready for the Rockies.
Cowboys and Indians was definitely an inspiration for Perezutti’s fall 2013 collection. With elements like fringe, denim shirts, and Navajo embroidery the touches of western toned down the all too pretty lace and silk gowns.
Deco baubles and art nouveau beading were abundant throughout the collection. With the Great Gatsby debuting soon, girls will be clamoring for Daisy Buchanan’s flapper style in one of these gorgeous beaded dresses.
Whether it is a motorcycle leather jacket over a tiered lace gown or an art deco gown with a knit cap, one thing is for sure the girl that rocks this collection is one cool fashion outlaw. I suspect that many of the styling elements from the Candela presentation will be spotted this fall such as jeweled headbands over knit caps, cameo ear cuffs, embroidered tights, fringed sweaters and dainty lace paired with supple leather.
