Classic Cookie Review - Feels Like Home

Have you ever heard the phrase when in doubt eat dessert first? Well there is a place where you can do exactly that and no one will give you a second glance. The Classic Cookie, a quaint eatery, is tucked away in the Waldo area of Kansas City, Missouri. One walks into a very unassuming nook resembling a café one would find all across Mid-America. At the door you will be greeted and seated by a friendly staff and made to feel right at home. The fixture that will catch your eye is the glass case with goodies.

The decor is consists of high back black chairs and pedestal tables. These are situated quite close together so you may find yourself "chatting it up" with your neighbor before the meal is over. Pleasant, yet nothing too special, but I digress. Let’s get back to the dessert. During lunch hours, when your server approaches your table to take your order, he/she won't be empty handed.

The server will place a delectable variety of mini homemade cookies and muffins on your table served in an open-woven wire basket. You can start eating them right away! I do. If you desire they ship these cookies nation-wide. The lucky person to receive them will untie the bow and open the decorative carton or tin can, instantly savoring the sweet aroma of "The Classic Cookie". These goodies range from the melt in your mouth chocolate chip to scrumptious snicker doodles and many other varieties.

While partaking in goodies, a Board Member of Unicorn Theatre dropped by with appreciation as he graced the owner, Leslie Stockard with a bouquet of flowers.  He elaborated that she hosted a wonderful Mad Hatter tea party with an assortment of cookies on one side (of the café) and teas on the other.  The owner explained The Classic Cookie is available for rental after hours for meetings or group gatherings.  Obviously, from the board member’s acknowledgement, his choice for a meeting place has its own unique charm.

This restaurant is open for a delicious breakfast and lunch.  For breakfast, try the burrito enfolding soft scrambled eggs, fresh green onions, and cheese topped with sour cream and chives.  This is definitely not your fast food fare, yet a good buy at $5.99. For those with a sweet tooth, there’s always the waffles with fresh fruit which many find so rich that they eat them without syrup.

When you stop by at lunch time be sure to order the spinach salad. It is beyond compare with juicy strawberries and pecans nestled in fresh spinach with a sweet spicy dressing made on-site.  Try it with a sandwich; the Tuna Cado has healthy toppings of avocado, tomato, cucumber, alpha sprouts and herb cream cheese covering their white tuna salad. The Classic Cookie also has a variety of daily specials from Shephard pie to sloppy joe’s, and all of the specials are $7.99. Incidentally, the specials are the most expensive item on the menu.

The Classic Cookie where the food is garden fresh and served at the proper temperature every time. Just like the little cafes that dot each little town all across America, complete with resident owner/chef, Leslie Stockard. Originally this establishment was located on the Plaza, but eleven years ago it was purchased by the present owner and moved to this location. This establishment is open seven days a week. So guess what? You’re in luck. Go now!
