Nicole Miller borrowed a number from the boys for her Fall 2013 collection. The designer incorporated doses of men’s evening wear with a dash of rock n’ roll on the side. On the other hand, the sexier side of Nicole Miller came out with sexy mini dresses, perfectly fitted trousers and sheer blouses to compensate for the masculine pieces. The collection was a mash up of what happens when a good girl meets a bad boy and vice versa.
The show featured numerous tuxedo jackets with silk and leather lapels showing the designer’s tendency to mix things up. Tuxedo pants were tailored and fitted elongating the leg while boxy blazers were always paired with a sexier bottom to balance things out. The fedora will definitely be seen all over stores come this fall after the majority of the models rocked fedoras adding some mystery to the face.
Nicole Miller took a note from the prep school circuit for her fall collection pairing sweaters with skirts and incorporating tartan and plaid prints throughout. An updated beaded version of the classic sweater vest made an appearance adding some glamour to the casual attire. One particularly sexy skirt looked very similar to a catholic school uniform only jazzed up with a flirty hemline and leather details.
The mostly monochromatic black collection was basic with muted prints mixed throughout. The wall flower print seen on a gorgeous long dress made a huge statement taking us back to the 70’s. Houndstooth was also interspersed giving way to the menswear trend once more. The addition of large fur collars and trim on tops added an element of luxury to the collection that was a nice surprise.
The moral of this fashion story is to raid your boyfriend’s closet for anything tuxedo related or houndstooth and have it altered to fit. It’s all about the masculine fabrics but in ladylike proportions for this season. Nicole Miller wants you to soften it up and mix it up with androgynous fashions for this Fall 2013.
