Tiger Woods- Golfing on the Bosphorous Bridge

Standing on the bridge connecting Europe and Asia, was where 14-time major championship winner Tiger Woods struck golf balls east to west from the Bosphorous Bridge in the Turkish city of Istanbul.

Becoming the world’s first golfer to have done this it was only a matter of minutes before there was a media frenzy forming around Tiger Woods. But nonetheless, Woods managed to perform well under pressure as he’s done so in the past.

“To be the first golfer to do this is very cool,” said Woods as will be headlining Turkey’s first ever European Tour event as the US $7million Turkish Airlines Open presented by the Ministry of Tourism and Culture.

Woods also stated, “I have really enjoyed my visit to Istanbul. To see the Bosphorous for the first time was a very enjoyable and memorable experience.”

The 3,524 feet long bridge is a gravity-anchored suspended landmark took 16 years to plan and was completed in 1973. It is located exactly between Ortakӧy (a European neighboring city) and the Asian shore of Beyerbeyi.

The president of the Turkish Golf Federation, Ahmet Ali Agaoglu, said “We are delighted to Tiger took part in this historical event. The presence of arguably golf’s greatest ever player in Turkey is wonderful for the profile of the game in the country.”

The Minister of Turkey also praised Woods by adding, “It was an honour to welcome Tiger to Istanbul. It demonstrates Turkey’s ability to attract and host the biggest names in world sport and we are certain he will enjoy his week.”

Turkish Airlines Open presented by the Ministry of Tourism and Culture forms part of the European Tour’s opening for the Final Series and is the second to last event on the 2013 race to Dubai. It also features78 of the game’s best players and gets under way at the Montgomerie Maxx Royal in Belek, Antalya.  

All in all we are left to ponder over Tiger Woods many achievements and wonder what this acclaimed athlete can’t do!?
