The Preserve -- a Napa, California combination spa, salon and peaceful garden -- warms up future guests with its informative “How To Spa” primer on the Preserve Spa website. As a vacationer from the Mid-west who was inspired to visit as many local wineries as humanly possible within a few warm autumn days, The Preserve’s slogan, “Protect Your Peace of Mind,” hit home. For one afternoon, I would enjoy an interlude of pampering and relaxation. The fact that The Preserve is a stand-alone building adjacent to the Napa Valley Marriott Hotel made my selection of that spa convenient and it was a perfect choice.
As an occasional spa consumer, I have had a couple of intimidating beautification services in my past. Not this time, however. I was greeted warmly by the gracious concierge, Meghan Mullet. She invited me to sit down for a few moments with a cup of tea and a selection of current magazines.
My first treatment was ‘The Ultimate Facial.’ Yes, it was. Aesthetician Amanda Brockway explained that the deep purification of my mature skin would result in a more youthful, brighter and firmer face and neck.
As relaxing music played in the background Amanda gently massaged my face. After several more beauty steps, she painted my face with what she called an Iron Mask (Maschera Al Ferro). I knew this beauty potion was working because, as it tightened, I was in a comfortable, relaxing and self-induced trance. This mask contained iron particles that would absorb dead skin cells, and other impurities. Later, she used a special magnet that attracted and removed the skin cells. This was an anti-aging facial experience like I never had before -- resulting in a much cleaner, firmer and fresher face that smiled back at me through Amanda’s hand-held mirror.
And, I am delighted to admit that a stubborn skin bump that nothing in my regular skin regiment would erase actually disappeared shortly after I arrived home. So, I know that my facial was truly ‘The Ultimate.’ Between treatments, I was invited to enjoy the gardens at Preserve Spa. It was almost sunset and the serenity of the music and the relaxing moments there, will always be a part of my memory book.
The ‘Smart Signature Pedicure’ was next. I enjoyed a cup of tea while indulging in this intensive foot and lower leg exfoliation plus a special mask that smelled intoxicating. It was a step up from the traditional spa pedicure – and I loved every second of this wonderful experience.
What set the Preserve Spa apart from other spas I have experienced? One local Napa resident, Sandra C., told me after her half-day retreat (Swedish massage, classic facial, Spa Manicure and Pedicure) “I can feel pampered for a few hours and always come out looking good and feeling relaxed.” There’s not much I can add to that!
There’s even a special package called ‘Together’ for women or men and their significant other. Over a glass of local Champagne, there’s a body scrub and Swedish massage in the special ‘Couple’s Retreat.’ The experience culminates in a classic facial. Any spa service can be combined for a half-day or full-day beauty and relaxation sojourn.
The Preserve Fitness Center is also a great way to enhance your experience while sticking to your workout routine. Located in The Preserve Spa, the center is fitted with cardiovascular equipment, free weights and strength training equipment. Use of the Fitness Center is complimentary and open to Marriott Hotel guests during their stay.
Spa Director Trudy Smith said that the spa hosts many groups and special events. The Preserve staff is also available for lectures, massage demonstrations, image consulting and makeovers. The Spa staff will also accommodate catered breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks for any occasion.
