A New York City Landmark Offers A Look Into Its Legacy.
The Waldorf=Astoria, which recently opened its celebrated city-square-block kitchen as New York's most exclusive restaurant (open only six times this year, for a maximum of just 30 guests each evening), will give the public an even broader insiders' look at the landmark hotel that has been the epicenter of the city's social, business and political life for more than a century with monthly tours. The hotel's concierges will conduct complimentary tours on the first Saturday of every month, starting at 10:30 a.m. With an additional date of August 21st being added due to popular demand.

Park Avenue Lobby

During the one-hour exploration of the living Art Deco museum that is The Waldorf=Astoria, a special treat will be a tour of The Waldorf Towers. This super luxury hotel- within-a-hotel with its exclusive residential ambience occupies the 28th through 42nd floors of the Waldorf building. Tour-goers will be regaled with tales of the hotels' colorful histories as hosts too more heads-of-state than (arguably) any others in the world and get a rare look at some of the behind-the-scenes operations. The pastry kitchen, as an example, will treat guests to freshly baked Waldorf specialties.

Presidential Suite

Waldorf tourists will also wander the hallowed halls of one of The Waldorf Towers' majestic suites, such as The Presidential Suite. This spectacular setting has hosted every U.S. President since Herbert Hoover. The Royal Suite, the former New York residence of the Duke and Duchess of Windsor, may be available as well.

Grand Ballroom

Along the way, they will hear about: famous guests and residents, the Waldorf Towers' singular status as a hotel doubling as an embassy; the staggering figures associated with the food and beverage operation serviced by six kitchens in addition to the massive main; and the roles The Waldorf=Astoria and The Waldorf Towers have played in local, national and even world history.

Starlight Roof

As a memento of the tour, which will include legendary public rooms like The Starlight Roof and Grand Ballroom, participants will be presented with a gift certificate entitling them to an upgrade to Champagne service during afternoon tea at The Cocktail Terrace or a complimentary appetizer with the purchase of an entré¥ at Oscar's, the hotel's stylish American brasserie.

The free-of-charge public tours are being launched as a response to the success of last October's Open House New York event, during which the demand for tours of the Waldorf were overwhelming.
In order to prevent an interruption of daily activities and impede upon guests' experiences, tours are limited to just 20 people. Book early as these tours fill up fast. To book please call the Waldorf's Restaurant Reservations line at (212) 872-1275.
