Exotic, mysterious, and powerful are just a few words to describe this talented Indian-American singer-songwriter. According to YouTube, her single “Going Under” featuring cameos by Interscope artist Lil Playy and actress Taryn Manning, was voted #17 most watched musician YouTube video in India, #3 in Sweden and #24 in Brazil. This single was off her 2010 E.P. titled “Popular Science”. After 2 years signed to an independent record label, she is currently unsigned, but working under AMG Consulting. In early 2012, Vinita released her single, “Take Me For One Night” ft. Mann (“Buzzin” ft. 50 Cent) which was a huge success on the UK and Bermuda radio charts.

Geared to take off in 2013 with her single “Whatchu Want” (available on iTunes and Amazon), her current project is a remix E.P. from DJs around the world. This amazing vocalist and Los Angeles Native has taken the stage at the infamous Viper Room with DJ Catherine Ouellette, OC’s Yost Theater, Hollywood’s Club Mansion, Infusion, GVR in Las Vegas, Stingaree and Red Circle in San Diego, Athletic Garage in Pasadena, The Abbey and Tigerheat. She is currently on a West Hollywood Club Tour and just performed for 10,000+ people at San Francisco Pride. Look out for Vinita, who will be featured along with Jim Jones, The Game and Tech N9ne in Metta World’s “Passion” Mixtape in 2013, and will be releasing her own mixtape concurrently.

Vinita, you just came back from San Francisco Pride. How was it?

Vinita: It felt amazing to perform for over 10,000 people. I did my two singles, “Whatchu Want” and “Take Me For One Night”. I didn't want to get off stage, it was such a gorgeous day and great crowd. They asked me back next year! http://iamvinita.com/vinita-wows-crowd-at-san-francisco-pride-2013/

How did you start doing music?

Since I was a little girl,I have loved performing and entertaining. So I taught myself how to sing by imitating Mariah Carey albums and started performing anywhere and everywhere I could. I did talent shows, sang at friends’ weddings, and starting networking. I was signed to an independent record label for two years in 2009, and I released an EP and three music videos. Now with Artest Media Group Management, I released two singles and just finished the Gay Club Tour in LA. I did 15 clubs and finished with SF Pride! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rWInQbKjAoA

What's next for you?

Right now, I am promoting my latest single, “Take Me For One Night ft. Mann ("Buzzin" with 50 cent)” and finishing my mixtape. I am excited to work with new producers and dive into EDM music as well. I am always looking for new people to work with and learn from. I am also learning about the business end of things, since this is the music ‘business’.

What is your favorite venue/performance?

Honestly, TigerHeat, Rage and SF Pride are my favorites. I love big crowds that show me love and excitement. Rage was amazing and they asked me to perform twice within 5 weeks. Pride was just super packed and the crowd was very responsive.

Why Pride?

I love all types of people, and even though I am straight, the majority of my friends are gay. I love supporting the gay community because I am all about being free and being who you are. The gays are super supportive to new artists and it is a great place to start off. I performed at the Long Beach Teen Pride Festival and got asked to ride in the LA Pride float with the mayor of Los Angeles. I love being involved with huge events and celebrating a great cause.

Who inspires you and why?

Mariah Carey. She is my biggest inspiration. I was a very lonely child and only had two albums: Mariah Carey's “Music Box” and Jay Z's Vol 2 “Hard Knock Life”. I played Mariah's album on repeat and taught myself how to sing. I felt that was my escape and grew a strong connection with her over the years. I actually met her three times and she is flawless in person. She has taught me to keep going with my dreams and never give up.
