Ilhame Paris - From Tragedy to Success Just Wish It

Singer-songwriter Ilhame Paris (pronounced “ee-lem,” meaning “inspiration” in Arabic), will release her debut album Just Wish It in summer 2013. The album features collaborations with Nicolay (Foreign Exchange), Shafiq Husayn (Sa-Ra Creative Partners), T3 (Slum Village), rapper Big Pooh (Lil Brother), and Ky-mani Marley, a salute to the continuing legacy of Bob Marley.

Born in the 17th District of Paris, and of Moroccan descent, this passionate polyglot first discovered her love of the stage at the age of 6. By 13 she was winning local singing contests and at 19 signed on with Warner Bros Records. But when the label asked her to “lighten” her approach artistically, the then- ingénue ended the relationship. She forged forward and she’s since worked with the likes of Erykah Badu, The Roots, Dwele, Van Hunt, and Macy Gray.

As a young woman, Ilhame suffered a personal tragedy – one which led her to gaining nearly 100 pound. The toll it took both mentally and physically nearly killed her. But in eventually overcoming it, a powerful and life-changing philosophy was revealed to her: the notion that any negative situation can be solved by envisioning a solution and then working daily to achieve it. To Ilhame, “Just Wish It” is more than a mere moniker for her album; the title is a motto by which the Parisian beauty lives and a movement for which she inspires all of her fans to strive. In addition to supporting many worthwhile causes in many ways, Ilhame is also in the process of establishing the “Just Wish It Foundation,” to which a portion of all of her musical proceed will be donated. "After all, it isn’t just about the music,” states Ilhame, “it’s also about making a difference in peoples’ lives. And I’m doing my part to change the world for the better – one song at a time."
