“Daddy DJ” to the Stars Patrick Belton, Shares His Juggle of Fatherhood and Music Career

Patrick Belton’s genuine love of music is apparent.  Even back in his college days he was the one lining up all the mix tapes (back then on a walkman) keeping the party crowd dancing.  It was during these years that Patrick realized his thrill of choosing songs that would make people let loose and dance.

Fast forward some years…..when Patrick started Dub Gypsy (www.dubgypsy.com) in 2001 after arriving in Los Angeles from Chicago.  He noticed a major gap in quality DJ services and entertainment companies.  Now a hugely successful music and entertainment company, with a”123 DJ’s” division, serving brides across the nation (and internationally!) as well as a division supplying entertainers and party planning to Los Angeles exclusive red carpet events.  From world-class music spun by the best DJ’s in the city, venue sourcing, airbrush artists, cirque performers to casinos and caricatures – Patrick and his team at DubGypsy have outstanding parties covered.
Patrick has played many of Hollywood’s most exclusive events and weddings, from Reese Witherspoon, Madonna, Dr Phil and Will Ferrell, Hollywood to Montego Bay, he has played it all.  Patrick and his excellent team of “123 DJ’s” specialize in an eclectic variety of music and have continued forward as a prosperous company generating a loyal clientele who settle for nothing less than the best in entertainment.

A little over a year ago, Patrick and his wife Trina (also a successful business owner in the city) were blessed with a baby girl, Ella.  Like a scene from the popular show “Up All Night”, a day in Patrick’s life now goes something like this; “Baby crying. Dad bathroom. Baby bottle. Dad Coffee. Baby breakfast. Wife breakfast, Daddy breakfast. Then work work work.”  On a typical day Patrick lines up DJ gigs, negotiates contracts, services new clients while running to the grocery store, driving across the city for an audition, pulling music cues for a “True Blood” scene, taking baby Ella to a playgroup, and ending most days off with spinning music at a club or private event in the evening.

With no immediate family in Los Angeles, and both self employed, Patrick and Trina share an equal role in raising their daughter Ella (along with the help of their nanny) and SWAT team of devotees that ensure she is raised in a loving, positive and stable environment.  They say it takes a village and in Patrick and Trina’s case, that really is a reality!

Some would think adding another gig to the mix would be crazy, but for Patrick it is just par for the course and a natural progression.  After working on TV Shows like "True Blood" and "House" with Gary Calamar at Go Music, Patrick recently teamed up with co-supervisor Sanaz Lavaedian to create Off The Record Music Supervision (www.offtherecordmusicsupervision.com). Together, they have worked on movies like "Some Guy Who Kills People", produced by John Landis and starring Kevin Corrigan, as well as played a vital role in the hit movie at this year’s Tribeca' Film Festival "The Giant Mechanical Man".

When you have a passion for music that runs as deep as Patrick’s, the constant juggle of career and family becomes a way of life and balanced, in a crazy sort of way.
