Calling all Music Fans. The third installment of Boston Calling Music Festival is set for May 23rd-25th, 2014 at Boston's City Hall Plaza. Boston Calling was founded by Brian Appel and Mike Snow in collaboration with Bowery Boston. “We were so thrilled with how last year went, and we’re ready for another one,” says Appel.
The lineup, curated by Aaron Dessner of The National, is especially heavy on artists from indie-rock and Americana circles. Artists Jack Johnson, Frank Turner, Bastille, Modest Mouse, Death Cab For Cutie, and many more will take the stage this Memorial Day weekend. “We knew that we couldn’t just book what was popular or on the radio,” Dessner says. “There had to be music that people might not have heard of yet. I’ve always liked that about festivals, being able to discover new bands, and I think we pulled that off with the first one.” Two Boston-area bands are also scheduled to perform: Tigerman WOAH! and Magic Man. Appel believes it’s an important part of Boston Calling to have talented local bands perform. Appel and his team at Crash Line Productions knew from the start that Boston Calling would have two installments last year. However, both were so successful that the organizers have expanded to include a Friday night concert this year, which will feature Johnson as the headliner, along with Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros and Cass McCombs.
This years lineup includes incredibly talented bands and will bring great music in the city of Boston. Three days of outstanding artists rocking the City Hall Plaza. It will surely be a memorable 2014 weekend. This is just the beginning of Boston Calling Music Festival. City Hall Plaza better get used to having music fans near and far come together in the city of Boston.
