Two day festival of live Hip Hop, Jazz and Reggae music featuring international food, vendors and arts and crafts with a focus on sustainability
May 26th and 27th, 2013 marked the 27th Annual UCLA JazzReggae Fest at the campus intramural fields. Sunday May 26th was Jam Day, with live performances by Santigold, The Grouch and Eligh, Jhene Aiko, Gluck Jazz Ensemble, Ryan McDermott and headliner Common. Monday May 27th was Reggae Monday, with live performances by Kes The Band, Marcia Griffiths, Mr. Vegas, Barrington Levy and headliner Ziggy Marley.
Both days of the 27th Annual UCLA JazzReggae Fest also featured a large art exhibit, featuring works by X is the Weapon, Sole Bicyles and CanLove. UCLA Student Art Competition and UCLA Photo Project winners were also spotlighted at the art exhibit, and Jennifer Morgan of Sustainable Arts L.A. hosted a "just for kids" arts and crafts tables with all materials provided by Trash For Teaching, recyclers of local businesses' discarded waste. An area of the "just for kids" arts and crafts table was dedicated to constructing a sculpture made entirely of recycled water bottles.
The international food court at the 27th Annual JazzReggae Fest featured beverages, cuisine and sweets from: Alex Ethiopian Cuisine, Auntie P's, Barretts Lemonade, California Snow, Chow Mein King, Derrick's Jamaican Cuisine, Dippin Chicken, Dubble Dip Ice Cream, Hawkins House of Burgers, Irie Choice, Island Grill, Joe's Universal, Kamil's International Food, The Kobbler King, Mediterranean Delight, Mrs. C's Kitchen, Natraliart, Patties Express, Philly Gourmet Ice, S&R Thai Chinese BBQ, Shabazz, Shilo Smoothies, Stones & Jamaican, Strictly Vegan and The Sweet Stop.
The 27th Annual UCLA JazzReggae Fest has been produced by UCLA students since 1986, predominately through the UCLA Undergraduate Student Association Council's Cultural Affairs Commission. It is one of the nation's largest student-run festivals, with a focus on sustainabilty since 2007. 2013 sponsors and partners included: Ziggy Marley Organics, Amoeba Music, Food Should Taste Good, Cascadian Farm Organic, Belizeanvibez, StepAndRepeat.com, American Signs, Illy Issimo and LA Weekly.
