I was tired of the same old glass frames. I felt that I needed to create a new ‘style’ and that the look of my glasses was a big part of that look. After all, where do people look when they meet me or when I communicate with them?
As I am a publisher of many magazines, with an emphasis on style and fashion I knew I needed to find not only a well made pair of glass frames but one that had great style.
I wanted to create my own identity, something other people hadn’t already been jaded by due to over exposure, something that was me. But what exactly would be me? Sporty, round or oval, simple or trendy - what should I choose? Are people that wear oversized frames fundamentally different than those sporting aviators or light weight wire frames? Well, the way I saw things, a conversion was in order, from the same old, conservative, dressy looking glasses, to something still classic but that exuded a different aesthetic.
The glasses that I chose were OTE Arnel. I’d often noticed this look on celebrities at the gala events my line of work allows me to attend. As of late, I’ve taken to wearing my hair long, at times suitably hatted and donning jeans with printed t-shirts - a fashion choice that reflects a state of mind rather than my age. The beautiful Italian plastic finish of Arnel complimented this style better than anything I’ve seen.
I was assisted in choosing this wearable work of art by the owners of Tart Optical Enterprises - David and Zoila who made an appointment with me and arrived at my home, carrying graded cases that opened into display shelves with the many styles I was about to try.
The consultation began, by seeing what glasses I currently wore and then choosing styles and colors similar to those the process began. Gradually we worked up to a style that was a much different and better look. At first I wasn’t sure if I would like them, and I looked at myself in the mirror, asking my assistant what she thought. She looked at them and then had me try another and another and then back to the OTE Arnel. I tried the different styles and colors with and without the hat I like to wear, and I felt like I was at an eye doctor appointment, ‘1 or 2, 1 or 3.’ We narrowed the choices down to three different styles with similar colors before I made my final decision. The OTE Arnel, black and clear frames became the new style that I will be able to wear for years without going out of style.
