Inside the Computers…

AMD was there showing off the latest enhancements their products are bringing to computers and other devices, including AMD Gesture Control and AMD Face LogInAMD Gesture Control allows one to use a wave of the hand to control machine function and optimizes accuracy in low-light conditions.  The system works with many favorite applications like Microsoft PowerPoint, Windows Media Player, Windows Photo Gallery, and Adobe Acrobat.  AMD Face Login permits the user to log in to their PC and popular websites using a built-in or connected webcam, or to automatically put the PC to sleep or lock the PC screen when leaving the computer.  Pretty cool.  AMD Face Login allows one to login to their computer with just a photo- and no need for remembering yet another useless password!  Yay!  Thank you for saving us brain space!  This enhancement features adjustable accuracy settings for added security and works with Windows login and Internet Explorer with sites like Facebook, Google, Yahoo, YouTube, Amazon, eBay, Flickr, and Twitter.

Outside the Computers--- and Smartphones…

Star picks came from San Diego’s award-winning maker of waterproof solutions for smartphones and tablet PC’s, LifeProof®  LifeProof was the first case manufacturer to offer a waterproof case with a device protection program that also enables full functionality/ interactivity under every daily life-type condition--- including water, mud, dirt, and snow. LifeProof’s team was there demoing their newest nüüd and frē cases for iPhones and now also for Samsung GALAXY S III and GALAXY 54 models.  The company’s product takes device protection to new heights, offering a one-time device repair or replacement if it sustains accidental water damage while properly installed in a LifeProof case.  Particularly impressive was the company’s footage being displayed at the show depicting various scenarios in which any smartphone not protected would have been destroyed- as well as their display of a tablet protected by their patented case which was fully functional even submerged in water.  The company developed their Total Water Protection Program after extensive consumer research indicated that consumers wanted an added level of assurance when using their devices around water. (I’m thinking about the jacuzzi, you?) These amazing products are affordable gifts for everyone- for more information, visit

Alongside the Computers…

SanDisk was showing off their latest storage devices in the SanDisk Connect line, both of which make great gifts for anyone in the family or in the office:  the SanDisk Connect Wireless Flash Drive and the SanDisk Connect Wireless Media Drive.  The first handy item provides a convenient and affordable way to wirelessly store, share and stream content, across mobile devices and computers.  The company claims this is the smallest wireless USB storage device available to date, yet the drive offers up to 32GB of extra storage without any need for Internet connection or cables.  The SanDisk Connect Wireless Flash Drive is available in 16GB or 32GB capacities at an MSRP of $49.99 and $59.99 respectively.  The SanDisk Connect Wireless Media Drive is touted as “the perfect companion for road warriors or parents who need entertainment ready to enjoy” and offers ease of portability in taking content such as high-definition (HD3) movies, videos, music and photos just about anywhere.  It’s a good-looking, pocket-sized item that also offers up to eight continuous streaming hours on a single charge. The SanDisk Connect Wireless Media Drive comes with 32GB or 64GB storage capacities at $79.99 and $99.99 respectively.  The SanDisk Connect line of products is compatible with iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, Kindle Fire and Android™ devices as well as PC and Mac computers.

Apps of Note…

Reps from local software company Concur were at the show letting everyone know that their mobile travel organizer, TripIt, has recently received upgrades.  A flatter design now improves itinerary viewing, and it’s just a “one click” move now to see additional updates.  Google Maps as default client for maps and directions, and even a playful drifting cloud effect has been added for entertainment.  Other improvements just might be in the works regarding group itinerary shares- at least that is “the word” I heard as Fox Morning News tech maven Al Hernandez had the company PR rep’s ear.  He loves the app, has been using it “since forever” and can see it becoming perfect.  That’s a pretty great endorsement.
