Patrick Leung Acupuncturist Review - His Advanced Acupuncture Technique Helped My Chronic Pain

Dr. Patrick P. Leung, Licensed Acupuncturist--L.Ac. M.S.O.M., M.Sc. and Herbalist.

I‘ve had migraines that lasted several days, PMS and menstrual cramps that I suffer with monthly, but none of that compares to the agony of dealing with daily chronic pain all over my body.

I was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia 15 years ago and not one medical professional has been able to help until I met Patrick P. Leung, Licensed Acupuncturist--LAc. M.S.O.M., M.Sc. and Herbalist, at his GNC Health Store--he is the owner at the Studio City store (at Laurel Canyon and Ventura in the Trader Joes shopping mall). You may see him there working part-time because he finds it fulfilling helping people who are interested in their health and wellness.

“I enjoy helping and healing people,” said Leung humbly.

I explained to him about my painful health issues that has affected my life for the past 15 years and that I’m exhausted all the time. He suggested some good stretching techniques for the pain and explained more about Fibromyalgia.

What is Fibromyalgia?

Fibromyalgia is a widespread chronic pain that causes pain throughout the body. The main symptom is specific tender points on the body that are painful to touch. You may experience swelling, disturbances in deep-level or restful sleep, and mood disturbances or depression. Some patients with Fibromyalgia have pain and achiness around the joints in the neck, shoulder, back, and hips. Sometimes, your muscles will twitch, burn, or have a deep stabbing pain that makes it difficult to sleep or do any kind of physical activity.

The pain I experience is different all over. I have neck pain that feels like a stiff neck every day.  My muscles feel like they have been overworked or pulled and my hands and forearms feel like a burning sensation.  I get constant headaches and flair ups with certain foods; with heat or cold or too much physical activity.

It was very obvious that Lueng has a great passion helping his customers at his GNC Store. His customers feel the same as Leung is well liked and respected by many of his frequent returning customers who go to him for guidance in wellness. I finally asked him if he thought he could help me and he said yes-- I saw him the following week.

In my first visit, Leung zoomed right in to my aches and pains. He said “The first thing we have to do is reduce your inflammation.”  Leung explained what he was going to do and said my problem was serious and wasn’t exactly sure how long it could take because Fibromyalgia is still an unknown disease. He was very straight-forward with me and I appreciated his honesty.

The Process of Acupuncture:

He very carefully inserted prepackaged, sterilized needles and left them in for about 20 minutes in various parts of my body. The needles don't hurt at all. I just lay in a quiet room relaxed. When it was over, I noticed I was in a state of relaxation and euphoria and I had a good night’s rest that I’m not accustomed to--I was thrilled! I understood, this 15 year nagging pain was not going to go away in one day and needless to say, I still had pain, Leung said my tendons have been so damaged I will continue to have flare ups and it will take a while to heal and then I would need to build strength in the surrounding muscles.

After a couple of visits, Leung tried electrical acupuncture which is acupuncture with stimulation that goes deep into the muscle tissue. This procedure felt so good—it’s like a mini massage right where it hurts. This procedure is what finally reduced the inflammation. I couldn’t believe it and I was ecstatic! I finally had some relief after feeling despair for several years by western doctors that have done nothing but give me drugs.

Two months later after seeing him twice a week, I have dramatically inflammation and less pain in my neck and hands/forearms. My sleep has improved and he's balanced my depressed and fatigued mood. He has given me hope that I will get better and I am so grateful!. I am now working on strength exercises.

Leung practices an advanced style of acupuncture: Over the centuries, numerous styles of acupuncture have emerged in China, Korea and Japan. In addition to a formal college education in Tradition Chinese Medicine, he also studied under Master Chao Chen, a scholar of the Chinese classic l-Ching and the architect of an advanced style of acupuncture based on the l-Ching geometry Ba Gua. This style of acupuncture employs techniques that mostly needle distal acu-points (i.e., points away from the site of injury) to balance the body's Qi. The goal is to use the minimum number of needles to get the maximum results.

In addition, he offers therapeutic exercise, heat/cold therapy, eastern breathing techniques and finger-pressure. Furthermore, he can offer herbal prescriptions in capsules or powder which are custom-built for a patient's of specific condition. Only the highest-quality concentrated herbal extracts and nutritional supplements that meet the FDA standards are recommended.

Leung has his Bachelors in English and a Masters in Finance and extensive experience in the use of Western nutritional supplements, vitamins and herbs which is why he has many recurring customers at his GNC Store that seek his knowledge to improve their health.

Leung’s incredible acupuncture techniques also have helped me with sciatica, migraines and stomach problems in one session. He’s amazing and my life has improved because of him! So for those who feel hopeless because they have tried everything for pain with no results, consider this acupuncturist who has extensive knowledge and experience in Traditional Chinese Medicine. He is caring and wants to help his patients find a solution to their health issues and not put a band-aid over it.
