You say crow’s feet and I scream, where? On me? Oh G--, no way! I’m much too young, or at least I will only admit to being much too young, for that! For the----wait for it----heavy sigh, deep breath, hard to admit, here it is, the dreaded crows feet and eyebrow frown lines. But even though I might lie, the mirror doesn’t and I am forced to admit that I look way older than I really am. Not only older, but meaner, frownier, grumpier, than I am. If I pull my eyebrows up high, or place my fingers strategically around the corners of my eyes, I start to look more like myself. Only I can’t walk around like that.
So, I am truly forced to admit something has to be done about this. I am going in for that much whispered about, but never talked about openly in proper society that B word – Botox. Only I know that I don’t want to look like I have a frozen face. Or go spend money only to receive a watered down version that doesn’t do the job. So I decide it is time to do a little research. I start asking my friends if they’ve had “it” done, if they can recommend someone who has. Only no one will really tell me and all I get is the “oh that is yucky I don’t want to be expressionless” statements. Then much to my delight I am told about a doctor, a plastic surgeon that is said to be one of those plastic surgeons to the stars.
His name is Dr. George Boris and he has a Center of Cosmetic Surgery in Culver City conveniently close to many of the movie studios. It turns out that Dr. Boris is world renowned as a global leader in plastic surgery. Each year he shares his cosmetic expertise with leading European surgeons to teach the latest in the plastic surgery "revolution". Dr. Boris maintains full service plastic surgery centers in Beverly Hills, Culver City and Paris equipped with the latest state-of the-art-technology.
At his center there is a wide range of cosmetic procedures provided including facelifts, nose reconstruction, cheek and chin implants, eyelid surgery, breast implants and scar revisions. The on-site outpatient surgical facility is fully accredited and designed with patient comfort, privacy, convenience and cost effectiveness in mind. Unlike many other cosmetic surgeons, Dr. Boris has spent years in training and practice in head and neck surgery, ear, nose and throat and cosmetic surgery. During many of these years, over half his practice was caring for people with cancer; removing the cancer and then performing reconstructive surgery of the head or neck.
The years of helping people with cancer provided Dr. Boris with a knowledge and expertise of the head and neck not often shared by others who perform cosmetic surgery. Dr. Boris eventually ended his work with cancer patients because of his need to experience a less stressful and emotional practice. He has continued to use his extensive knowledge and surgical skills to perform nose surgery and many forms of cosmetic surgical procedures.
When I met Dr. Boris I was delighted to find a very unassuming man who immediately put me at ease with not only his demeanor but with his knowledge and expertise. He loves his work and is a self proclaimed workaholic, telling me he would much prefer to be working than to be bored.
The Botox injections were performed quickly and with the offhanded ease of someone who is so comfortable and expert in their skill that the injections were practically over before my brain registered that they had happened. The surgeons artistry came into play when he asked me if I wanted the outer edges of my eyes to have a little lift and with my yes, he did two small injections and voila an instant eyelift.
As I spoke with him he offered me a free consultation and made suggestions of things that we could do to improve on my appearance. Being well aware and desirous of having these things done I asked him questions relating to those procedures. He was knowledgeable and portrayed a great expertise when addressing the issues we were talking about. One of the things I have been alerted to when you are looking for a surgeon is how willing are they to discuss the procedure with you and to spend the necessary time to make sure you not only understand but all your questions and concerns are addressed. Dr. Boris passed this test in flying colors. He spent just the right amount of time with me during which he openly and professionally answered and addressed all my questions and concerns. I felt at ease with his expertise on the subjects we spoke about and excited about the possibility of further work with him. I left his office with a bright red, bumpy and splotchy forehead just as he warned I would. These bumps were from the Botox injection sites and they were easily covered by my hair in my face and lasted only a short amount of time.
A little background on Botox it is a simple, nonsurgical, treatment that can temporarily smooth moderate to severe frown lines between the brows in people from 18 to 65 years of age. It is the only treatment of its type approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
One 10-minute treatment—a few tiny injections—and within days there's a noticeable improvement which can last up to 4 months.
Botox is a purified protein produced by the Clostridium botulinum bacterium, which reduces the activity of the muscles that cause those frown lines between the brows to form over time.
As I write this piece it has been a week since my Botox treatment from Dr. Boris. When I look in the mirror instead of that irritated grouchy person starring back at me, I see a smoother forehead. And my eyes are more noticeable looking shinier, happier and not so hidden under heavy creases of a wrinkled brow.
