Blue Sunday at the blue spa was one of the funnest events I’ve been to all summer. It was filled with gorgeous, friendly people, laughing, talking, shopping and sampling some incredible products and beauty services.

blue spa is rated “One of the Top 20 Spas in the Nation” by Beauty LaunchPad. On their Blue Sunday they out did themselves with some great offers and services they extended to their clients. Like collagen masks, Latisse, wrinkle relaxers and dermal fillers at super discounted prices. If that wasn’t good enough they were offering one of my favorite things (FREE), free consultations, free laser hair removals and free IPL Photofacials for those that signed up in advance. My publisher and I opted for the Intense Pulsed Light (IPL™) photofacial. In addition I had scheduled an appointment for dermal fillers. We lucked out and got the adorable Elise as our consultant. Elise is from London, she’s a Registered Nurse and she’s fantastic at needle work, (the kind of needle that has a syringe attached to it.)
We arrived at blue an hour earlier than our appointments, so I could get numbing cream applied to my face. This proved to be a great move because there were so many great vendors, fun people and exciting services happening the hour flew by. We didn’t even begin to cover everything in that hour and stayed several more.
When it was time for our services our names were announced over the speaker and Elise took us to one of the laser rooms. The following videos are of her explaining about the IPL treatment.

The IPL was great. Intense pulses of light penetrate deep into your skin causing collagen and blood vessels below the epidermis to constrict, reducing redness and age lines. The procedure involves only minimal discomfort. It’s a gentle skin rejuvenation used to treat the effects of sun damage, rosacea, hyperpigmentation, fine wrinkles and more. It also damages the skin’s collagen which prompts it to rebuild; creating firmer and stronger collagen, like we had when we were younger. IPL transforms your skin, evens out tones, you see less redness, blotchiness, brown sun spots, and smaller pores. Translation: a more radiant you.
Heavy duty metal eye goggles (very light in weight) are placed over the eyes to protect you from the pulses of light. Even with the goggles I could see the flashes of light. The treatment felt like snapping rubber bands and heat were being applied to my face. It was mildly uncomfortable but I wouldn’t call it painful. There were a couple of odd sensations one was a burning smell, which I was told was the hair on my face. The other was a jolting feeling in my teeth. It reminded me of being a kid, (with metal fillings in my teeth), and accidentally getting a piece of aluminum wrapper attached to a piece of gum I was chewing. You know that jolt you feel in your tooth that feels a little electric and shocking? It was like that. After the treatment was over there was a healing gel applied to my skin which was very soothing and I was given ice to cool down the skin. It was similar to feeling like I had a very mild sunburn, and in a short amount of time my skin felt normal. Since the treatment I’ve had an extremely mild tight dry feeling to my skin. I was told in a few days the brown spots would get darker and my skin would start to get flaky as the old layers were rejuvenated. We were also told to be very diligent about applying at least 30 SPF sunscreen whenever we went out. I’m still in the stage where the skin feels dry, the brown spots are a bit darker and a little bit of flaking is beginning. I look completely normal and have no trouble going out in public, which is a problem for a week or two with some of the other laser treatments.
My second treatment was a dermal filler; Restylane to be exact. It was my first time in getting any kind of a filler. I’m grateful I had arrived early and had the numbing cream applied, it was a great idea and I recommend this extra step to anyone getting a filler. I’m sure it would have been painful if I hadn’t done that. Going in I had ideas of what I wanted, but I asked for Elise’s recommendation. She told me that the first thing she noticed when looking at me was the under eye and cheek area. This is a place where as we get older we can loose fat. The lose of which, results in hollow looking eye, dark circles and saggy looking cheeks. The remedy for this is used to be surgery. But now with dermal fillers on the market, (let me just add a hallelujah in here), it’s as simple as injecting the filler in the top fatty part of the cheek. Do you know where I’m describing? It’s the tip of the cheekbone area, right below the under eye where the dark circle ends. You’ll see it on my picture, which was taken with filler injected in only one side. Honestly when Elise handed me the mirror to see the result I was shocked. I think my mouth fell open and I started to gather flies. The difference from one side to the other was unbelievable. I was/am elated. I knew to expect something wonderful, I just didn’t realize that it would be that dramatic a difference. I really hope you can see it on the picture. I also had a little Restylane put in my marionette lines and my upper lip.
If you pay attention to the world of beauty you know that dermal fillers such as Restylane and Juvederm are wonderful for filling in volume and deep lines. Like fuller lips, the between the eyebrow crease Botox can’t erase and the marionette lines around your mouth. But the newer uses like the cheek area are incredible. I feel so lucky to live in an age where we have these options. I also feel so lucky to have found a place like blue spa where I know I’m in expert hands and can receive such excellent care and fabulous results. I’m over the moon, about it. I’ve received great feedback from friends as well. The results are so dramatic and yet subtle at the same time. No one knows I’ve had fillers unless I tell them. One person who hasn’t seen me in a while, thought I looked great because of my new haircolor, saying I looked 10 years younger. Others who I’ve told are amazed by the results. I’ve heard from several people I look 15 years younger! I first noticed the deep under eye circle problem when I was 22 years old and I kept thinking I was going to need eye surgery to correct it. Now I’ve found a solution which has nothing to do with surgery. I am thrilled.
