It's the month after Christmas. You've bought a pink terry robe for your mother, a Sony Playstation 3 priced at $700 for your son, now it's time to take care of you. Let the pampering begin!
Hollywood Shop 'Til You Drop at the Sportsman's Lodge aimed to bring sexy back on Saturday. Over 900 tickets were sold for this event, and a portion of the proceeds will benefit the Valley Trauma Center www.valleytraumacenter.org
The hallway overflowed with fashionistas peeking in at the designs, their credit cards burning a hole in the trendsetters' designer bags.
Wait but there's a Louis Vuitton for sale. 'Is it real?' 'Yes, we only sell authentic items. No copies here.'
For ten bucks' admission you can explore a bargain hunters' paradise.
Your eyes are drawn to the many tables of slinky dresses, bling galore, scented candles and wealth of trendy leopard bags.
There is a unique, ethnic slant to the event. Laga Designs International's gorgeous hand-embroidered bags are made in Indonesia. Sales of these fabulous bags help victims of the tsunami by supplying them with materials and teaching them skills so they can continue to create income for their villages. www.laga-handbags.com
Japanese culture vintage bags come into the mix. Made out of 40-year-old kimonos and precious wedding gowns, you can own a piece of history by picking one up. (Priced at $120 and $250.) Selina Vaugn www.inspirafashion.com
Internet shopping is a vital component of the day and whatever sellers don't have on hand, they offer through their websites. From rocker tees to designer shoes to custom-made jewelry.
I saw men's tie-tacks and cufflinks created by designer Marjorie Friend. You can also find her one-of-a-kind iridescent, women's dichroic glass necklace sets and rings. They told me that dichroic glass is unique in its ability to reflect one color and transmit another; this results in an opal-like fire that appears to originate from deep within the jewelry. I spotted a hot studded aqua skull-and-crossbones belt that I had to have. Unfortunately I couldn't find my size at KBD's booth.
Across the room were Spragwerks belts. I found one that was a perfect fit, but wanted to be sure my designer buckle would match.
The tattooed designer said that if I left him something, I could borrow his belt. My enthusiastic friend said, 'I'll stay.' I responded with 'If I don't come back, you can keep her.'
His belt buckles are made from vintage car parts and signs. What a find!
I returned to KBD's booth and tried the belt with the buckle. I added a loop for an extra buck and got a steal. $50 and I completed my look.
I walked over to Crunch Studios' table. Maybe if I win the raffle for their gym membership, I can cinch another inch.
On stage was a designer fashion show. Avid fans jumped at the chance to purchase Yoga Army's designs.
Yoga Army is a novelty dress and separates line that is a fusion of rock 'n' roll edge mixed with comfort and sexy femininity.
