BLT Steak on Sunset Plaza in West Hollywood

 If you enjoy fine dining with a touch of California casual chic you should pay BLT Steak, a modern American steakhouse on Sunset Plaza in West Hollywood a visit.

The restaurant is nestled between many chic boutiques and sits in a building with an old world European flaire. It is with its columns, a small balcony, dark wooden floors, big booths, wooden tables and white linens, warm and inviting.

BLT steak is owned and operated by Esquared Hospitality, who’s portfolio include 21 other restaurants such as the BLT Group, the GO Burger Division and their Italian themed division that includes Casa Nonna and the Florentine in Chicago. 

Although the restaurant has been in business for 4 years, it has changed chefs and since has evolved into a restaurant with clientele that includes titans of commerce, entertainment and the Media.

The front part of the restaurant has a large bar with a fantastic happy hour  called “5 for 5$” offering a wonderfully diverse menu Tue-Sat 5-7pm including cast iron black mussels, short rib grilled cheese, sweet potato fries, BLT sliders and Gruyere mac + cheese.

 You can also enjoy a glass of Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon, So-cal Sangria and a Sierra Nevada all for the price of 5$. Start  your night with a cocktail at the raw bar which offers fresh oysters, clams, shrimp- and crab cocktail.

In the back of the restaurant you can find a private room for events and parties, seating about 25-35 people. Atached to it you'll see a wine cellar that has a variety of beautiful French, Italian and California wines.

 The new Executive Chef Joshua Gil, a real charming character, who came from “ the Inn Of The Seventh Ray”, brings his own innovative brand of California fare to the table.

"I like taking people out of their comfort zone. What’s the point of eating out when you can eat the same thing at home”, says Gil, “our menu is driven by what’s fresh and available at markets and changes a bit according to season”.

When asked if he has a particular style or philosophy he responds,

"I like versatility, so we’ll use some French techniques and then some Asian or Spanish ingredients. The smaller portions are also tailored towards the body conscious celebrity crowd."

Try any items from the Blackboard like the traditional tuna tartare with avocado

Tuna Tartare

, served with a tangy lime vinaigrette followed by a beautifully Artichoke glazed Branzino

Grilled Branzino

or the velvety bright green potato and watercress bisque complemented by a smoky oyster meatball

Potato Watercress Soup

and a very untraditional cheeseburger, that’s served more like a beef carpaccio with cheese fondue bits, pickled onion and an original mushroom Ketchup that will knock your culinary tongue off.

Delicious is also the New York Strip that in our case was in fact Kobe beef, with brussels sprouts, red wine and horseradish.

For dessert enjoy the decadent flourless chocolate cake with pistachios, Orange glass and coffee ice cream.
