Melrose meets Main Street at Evergreen International
Situated on a hilltop along the Southern shoreline of Big Bear Lake, Evergreen International is the perfect equilibrium of small town charm and big city glamour.  Evergreen's cozy, 'cabinesque' atmosphere provides the perfect ambiance in which to settle in for a quiet dinner with friends or a romantic meal for two.  Thinking of popping the question?  The lake view from the main dining room and the outdoor deck are breathtaking, as the natural beauty of the lake provides  a stunning backdrop against which the most romantic of scenes could be acted out.

As we entered Evergreen International, we were passed by a local in sweats who had just stopped by to pick up a to-go order, but don't let the outward lodge-like appearance fool you!  Upon entering we were surprised to see the elegant main dining room beautifully adorned with flowers and a gazebo nestled into the corner of the window-lined walls.  An intimate wedding had just taken place an hour before and the  wedding party had happily gathered together for the reception in the very same room.  We were pleasantly surprised at how the the servers managed to attend to us with such detail and continue to dote on the wedding party.  Several times throughout the course of our meal we heard guests of the bride and groom exclaim, 'Oh, this is so good!'  and, 'You've got to try this!'

Speaking of things you've got to try, don't even THINK of visiting Evergreen without ordering the Bacon Wrapped Shrimp.  This was voted 'best appetizer' and rightfully so, what with it being  unreasonably delicious and an absolute steal at $8.95 for six.  My fiancee had the Chicken Cordon Bleu and thoroughly enjoyed it that evening AND the next, as Evergreen's generous portion sizes proved too much for even his big, Wisconsin appetite.  I chose the Char Broiled Salmon and indeed it was so delightful that I was finally able to think of something other than my aching gluteus maximus after a day of learning to snowboard.  When we ordered the hamburger for our little girl, we took the owner's suggestion to upgrade to Kobe beef.  This was truly the best suggestion yet, as out came a hamburger so tender and juicy that even the most fickle four year-old was rendered excuse-less and devoured this masterpiece in its entirety.

Evergreen International is a versatile restaurant that allows large banquet dining, quiet dinners for couples, and family dining to take place simultaneously and harmoniously within.  With a full bar and wine list, friendly and courteous servers, and food so wonderful you will want to extend your stay by a few days,  you will find that your weekend mountain getaway doesn't have to mean leaving all the glitz of the city at home.
