ZAGAT DINNER at SimonLA four-course menu featuring Deleon Tequila

ZAGAT DINNER at Simon LA offered a four-course menu of special dishes created by chef Kerry Simon using ultra rare Deleon Tequila (the Rolls Royce of tequilas).

I’m a lover of great tequila, but I was a little skeptical when I was told that it would be in my dinner. However, I'm allways up for trying new dishes, especially, knowing it was coming from restaurateur Kerry Simon. Kerry has been called the “rock-n-roll chef” by Rolling Stone Magazine. And that's not all, SIMON LA is one of the city’s hottest restaurants according to Los Angeles Magazine

Simon LA at the Sofitel Hotel in Beverly Hills is always cooking up something new, exciting and fresh so we were eager to get started.

The first course was delion brined pork shoulder - organic micro herb salad, orange-pomegranate reduction.

Lawrence: It was my favorite course of the whole meal. It was a succulent flavorful delicacy.

Amanda: The braised pork shoulder had just the right touch of orange glaze and tequila over a micro green salad that had pieces of pomegranate and orange tossed in a pomegranate glaze with pistachios—wonderful!

The second course was grilled calamari escabech - Deleon diamante tequila, lime essence, lipstick peppers, harissa over ciabatta crostina.

Lawrence: Delicious tender and unique flavors that blended together very well.

Amanda: The calamari was perfectly marinated in wine and the warm peppers and roasted tomatoes were superb over the grilled chibiatte crouton.

Our third course was a flat iron charred skirt steak - Deleon tequila marinated golden watermelon, pepato, wild rocket.

Lawrence: The presentation was wonderful, the steak cooked perfectly, but lacking in tenderness and flavor.

Amanda: Marinated skirt steak with a touch of cumin and sweetness over an arugula salad with a light sauce of orange vinaigrette. I loved it!

baked alaska ‘margarita style’ - lime sherbert, Deleon reposado tequila flambee

Our last course was baked alaska ‘margarita style’ - lime sherbert, Deleon reposado tequila flambee.

Lawrence: This dessert could have been wonderful but too frozen.

Amanda: This dessert was frozen and bland.

Each entrée was paired with the most delicious tequila we’ve ever tasted. Deleon Diamante Tequila and Deleon Reposado Tequila straight up or in a wonderful infused cocktail. We've never had anything like it.

Deleon Tequila is a lovely tequila and adds interesting flavor in an entrée. Our choice is to keep it in the glass to thoroughly enjoy the sublime flavor.
